What Getting Lunch in DUMBO Looks Like

Dear Silvergirl,

When it rains in Vinegar Hill/DUMBO/Fulton Ferry, it’s serious. Because we’re directly on the water with no tall buildings for a shield. The wind will blow out your umbrella at least twice before you even make it to the corner.

But isn’t this view amazing? Look! I’m walking under the Manhattan Bridge!

There are cobblestones. How cute. I slip on them while holding my plaid umbrella and taking photos of my favorite building.

No one delivers in DUMBO, so I’m always going out to get lunch. Usually Almondine or Peas & Pickles if I don’t bring anything with me. And sometimes I go out for cookies.

I’m totally not fooling you, am I? You know I love cold weather. I don’t even mind the rain that much, but rain and wind can make for a very blustery combination. I love this view though– rain or shine.

Alex

Actually Under the Manhattan Bridge

Dear Caitlin,

Man Repelling like a champion, I know (at least that’s what my friend said one of the last times I wore this skirt). Obviously I still wear it anyway. It’s a crazy skirt, I know, but bloggers are totally obligated to wear crazy things, right? And I don’t really care if people stare at it… it’s a great statement piece. …

The Last Yellow Leaves in New York

Dear Nnenna,

It was such a crazily windy day, even sheltered by the apartments in Stuyvesant Town. I can’t believe there are still leaves on the trees in this neighborhood! And I found a late-blooming rose, too.

My hair and my H&M dress were blowing all over the place. This is my new Target belt, too, and the Born boots, Longchamp tote, and J.Crew coat you’ve seen a million times now.

Happy Christmas Eve! I hope all your Christmas wishes come true.

Between Bridges | Alexander Wang & Foley + Corinna

Dear Silvergirl,

Brooklyn Bridge Park really is one of the best spots in New York, and Shivani had never been so I hopped us over on the F train. Despite the gloom and insane wind it was an unbelievably warm day. In between trains passing through, DUMBO is a quiet neighborhood and I like taking people out of areas that are seen as typically New York. Part of the beauty of this city is the amazing amount of different experiences you can have– sometimes all of them in one day!

Shivani left New York in the early evening and I met Nnenna for some shopping in Flatiron. At 8pm it was still warm enough for dinner outside at Shake Shack, an awesome treat this late in the season. I thought the everyone would have the same idea to dine al fresco one more time before winter sets in, but there were only about five people in line before us. Totally unbelievable, considering I’ve seen an hour long wait during the spring downpours we had earlier in the year.

I’m wearing my Simply Vera for Kohl’s jacket, Francesca’s Collections cardigan, Alexander Wang dress, Assets by Sara Blakely tights, and Born boots. And of course carrying my favorite old Foley + Corinna bag.

Hope you have lots of fun things planned for the holidays! I have lots of traveling to do this week.

New York Weekend

Dear Dotty,

Over the weekend my cousins came to visit and we did some touristy things. I usually only see the tree as I walk through on my way to Anthropologie. I don’t like the touristy areas of Manhattan… they aren’t really New York to me, although I did take a few good photos.

Then I took them to Flatiron, Union Square, and the East Village. They’d never been, which I can’t even imagine… they’re among my favorite neighborhoods in New York. I wanted to get them to Brooklyn as well, but there wasn’t time. Oh well, guess they’ll just have to visit again!

Do you have any fun holiday plans with friends or family?

Central Park After Dark

Dear Caitlin,

It seems like I’m always taking people to Central Park these days, although it doesn’t look quite as nice as it did when Lydia visited. Shivani and I went up for a walk before the Steve Madden party and shared a giant ginger snap at the little market in Columbus Circle. Maybe one day I can take you here, too?

I’m wearing a vintage necklace, ken + dana ring, Old Navy shirt, Gap leather skirt, Target belt, Born boots, and Assets by Sara Blakely tights. And I’m carrying my J.Crew coat and Foley + Corinna bag.

Life is a Cabaret, Old Chum, Only a Cabaret

Dear Lydia,

‘Twas the week of holiday parties and all through the city… First up: Steve Brings It! at Steve Madden with Keiko, who is just the nicest person ever. It can be a little weird and intimidating meeting really well known bloggers, but Keiko was so easy to talk to. Some sage advice I receieved Tuesday night: if you don’t store your handbags in their dustbags use them to carry your shoes! You can see Keiko’s recap of the event on Keiko LynnNnenna and I are in there amongst the instagrams!

The Other Black Dress

This is my original black jersey Alexander Wang dress from the F/W 2010 collection. I hugely regret not buying more of this collection. I don’t know what I was thinking. I clearly was not because I’m still trying to track down pieces of that collection.

I actually like this dress better than my other one, but I wear it less. This one always seemed a little bit fancier to me. I love the built-in scarf– so many ways to wear it, and it’s also just fun to play with. This is the first time I’ve worn something over this dress. It turned out much better than I thought it would, so I’ll have to style it again with one of my other black sweater things.

Francesca’s Collections open cardigan, Alexander Wang dress, MIA boots (DSW.com).

Other ways I’ve worn this dress:
