The Cove

Well look what I found during my recent journeys around New York.

All this time, and I had no idea Stuyvesant Cove Park was such a nice place to go.

There are even some well-cared for gardens. Berries on the bushes are one of the only visible signs that it’s fall in New York.

And there’s even a tiny beach. I would have gone down, but I don’t think I would have been able to get back up. One must leap the fence.

I’m Not Looking at You

navy h&m dress

It’s another exposed zipper! I must be on a zipper kick lately. For some reason I didn’t look at the camera in any of the photos I took. I was trying to do creative-but-normal poses and I guess that means no looking at the camera.

I’m wearing my Clarks granny sandals and this H&M dress that I love… but I don’t love on me. I’ve realized that that I really like dresses to have sleeves when the neckline is so high– balances my shoulders and height better. This dress is up for trade if anyone wants it! I’m planning on clearing out a few things from my closet so I might make a page of things to trade like Those Tricks, you can see things she wants to trade here. I’m still working on that dress you sent me, Stephanie! I haven’t forgotten about it… I am just not that good at alterations.

Plum Blossoms

Happy (late) Easter (if you observe).  Also, how green is everything right now?  Although it could just be my camera settings, my color setting is definitely bumped up a little.

I couldn’t think of a title for this post either.  And this is not a new Easter dress.  I got it in June last year at H&M.

Plum blossoms!

Minimal Everything

I’ve been wearing some unusual stuff for me lately, like the shirt from yesterday (I tend to wear things long with pants) and this very loose dress.  I actually wore this on Saturday night, it was my friends birthday and we went to The Melting Pot for dessert and drinks.  My knee’s been bothering me a lot because of the constant rain so I actually changed out of these heels into slightly lower ones that I just got.  I’ll photograph them soon!

It’s interesting — and freeing — to wear a dress this minimalist and loose.  I also didn’t expect this to look very good when I tried it on in H&M last week but I found myself liking it.  And I think the color sold me a bit too, it’s a vibrant navy.  I even kept my jewelry minimal, I wore plain silver hoops for the first time in years and just one small bangle.

Tiny Flowers for Spring

29 March 2011

I realized after I wore this that the ruffles of my dress made weird lines on the sweater… oops, the thicker knits I usually wear with this dress don’t show the ruffles.  After I took it off I also realized that the sweater has at least 8 holes.  Time to search for a replacement I guess (especially because I wore it to work and then a casual happy hour/birthday celebration).

Please come soon, spring!  It was so windy again over the weekend (although the sun was shining) but it seems like it’s back to rain for the week again.  At least the temperatures are holding in the 50s?  Seriously though, if it’s warm enough to wear bare legs where you are and I haven’t commented on your blog in a while it means I’m too depressed to read it.  Spring is definitely late this year.  All I can say is that my March 2010 archives from last year look a lot different than March 2011.

…so I just checked the archives for real and I was definitely wearing this mid-March 2010:

Just… less rain please, weather.  I know rain is good but I’m starting to feel like I should enter for an puddle jumping contest because I would totally win.  And I would really like to completely repeat that outfit again this spring.

Have a good weekend!

I’ve been wanting to get into portraits for a long time… this one is from my temperature inappropriate outfit earlier this week.  I’m also wearing earrings!  I hardly ever wear earrings because my hair always covers them.  I’ve had this borrowed pair on constantly.

Whenever I tell anyone that I borrow jewelry lately they immediately imagine it to be like some sort of celebrity borrowing thing.  No, definitely not as glamorous as that but still quite a bit of fun!

I’ll be at the Fashion Girls for Japan sample sale at the Bowery Hotel on Sunday, anyone else going and want to say hi?

The Last of the Snow is Behind Me… I Hope

26 March 2011

As of Saturday there was still snow on the ground.  It’s gone now though, but still.  Gah.  Despite how lovely and sunny and springy the first photo looks it was actually cold enough for gloves and way too cold to be in summer weight fabrics with cap sleeves.

Practical dressing is really not my strong suit.

These are my new jeans, they’re what I was braving the ice rain for in SoHo last week (they were on sale, I had to go- $15 off!).  They’re the new(ish) Levi’s Curve ID and the fit is a lot better than I expected, almost perfect for me.  They’ve stretched out more than I hoped for though so I might buy the next size down as well for a slimmer fit.  Designer denim is apparently just a huge waste of money for me, if you want any of it let me know, I’ll be purging most of my collection this weekend.

So excited to be wearing heels again that I’ve been wearing these boots nonstop.  My feet were hurting a bit today and I took the Dr. Scholls foam insoles out… somehow they’re much more comfortable without them?

ken + dana Jewelry and Alexander Wang Sweater

22 March 2011

This is one of my favorite sweaters because it’s loose and comfortable… and it can double as a dress with a good slip dress under it! It’s also one of my only sweaters. I always tend to think they’re itchy, so I hardly ever purchase any. But I have to admit, Alexander Wang does a pretty good knit. This one has such a beautiful finish in person.

Trying to get some close up photos of my bracelet.  Definitely failed in the close department, but I liked how this one turned out!  I get to pick free jewelry from my internship and this bracelet is a strong contender.  I like its darkly romantic vibe.  It’s also called the Dream Weaver bracelet which you know… just sounds cool.  What do you think?  See it in color on flickr.
