Autumn Colors

November 11, 2011

I took these photos last week. It’s been pouring here and terribly gloomy. But! I got new boots! After unsuccessfully trying on about ever pair in DSW, I ordered these Born ones from Zappos. They’re very comfortable and fit all my specifications except for the calf size. I’m hoping they don’t loosen up any more or else I’ll have to have them taken in. I haven’t had Born shoes in years and I forgot how well-made they are.

Sometimes funny things happen to me when I’m taking photos. Like a tree branch smacking me in the face.

Did give me the inspiration for the first photo though.

Minimal Everything

I’ve been wearing some unusual stuff for me lately, like the shirt from yesterday (I tend to wear things long with pants) and this very loose dress.  I actually wore this on Saturday night, it was my friends birthday and we went to The Melting Pot for dessert and drinks.  My knee’s been bothering me a lot because of the constant rain so I actually changed out of these heels into slightly lower ones that I just got.  I’ll photograph them soon!

It’s interesting — and freeing — to wear a dress this minimalist and loose.  I also didn’t expect this to look very good when I tried it on in H&M last week but I found myself liking it.  And I think the color sold me a bit too, it’s a vibrant navy.  I even kept my jewelry minimal, I wore plain silver hoops for the first time in years and just one small bangle.

Weekend Again

So, weekend again, although not a really weekend look.  My skirt was totally sticking to my tights all day despite the slip I was wearing.  And that dress is even lined so all three layers were sticking to my tights, I must have acquired a lot of static electricity somehow!

It was not actually warm out, you can see that I had my wool coat and was wearing it except for the photo.  But it was quite sunny so instead of wearing my usual embellished grey ribbon belt with this dress I wore the brightest one I could find.  It looks kind of ridiculous actually, but I do like that belt (sale section at Zara last week).  For this city street photo I enlisted the help of my friend as we were on our way from lunch to catch the train downtown.  I think the tripod might be a bit precarious to use on my own, someone might totally run into it.  It’s also lightweight and not too good at standing on its three legs so I guess I’ll be looking for very quiet places to take photos whenever I have it.

One borrowed, one mine, both from internship.

Aren’t these flowers nice?  And they didn’t have much of a scent, I’m really allergic to a lot of smells during allergy season but these didn’t bother me at all!

I hope you had a good weekend! It was a friend’s birthday so we had some fondue (chocolate with sea salt!) at The Melting Pot to celebrate!

Least Brilliant Idea. Ever.

Guys.  Guys.  On Saturday I decided that since it was not raining for the first time in my (admittedly short when concerning the weather) memory, I should go out for an adventure.  To Waterside.  It did seem like a brilliant idea at the time.

And then I got there… and I realized why no one else was about.  The wind.  Crazy.

And I only got one semi-normal looking photo.  My hair.  It’s… I don’t even know where it is.

On the plus side, the park was mostly empty which significantly cut down on the what-is-that-crazy-doing looks.  And I had a lovely (windy) walk.

But I might have to brave the streets next time.  Tall buildings totally cut down on wind, right?

The Reoccurring Dress and Belt Combination

A while ago (I think it may have been for FBFF) I said I didn’t really have a go-to outfit.  That’s not entirely true: I don’t have one, but if I’m pressed for time and don’t like anything I’ve put on yet I tend to repeat at least 50% of something previously worn.  I’ve photographed this exact same belt and dress at least twice before on the blog and I can tell you I’ve worn it at least six more times than that (both of these are so old I’ve had them since before I started taking photos).

Also, have you ever felt like you’ve just had a bad hair month?  I feel that way about March.  I’m still hoping for that “out like a lamb” weather to happen… March, you have 14 more hours.

ken + dana Jewelry and Alexander Wang Sweater

22 March 2011

This is one of my favorite sweaters because it’s loose and comfortable… and it can double as a dress with a good slip dress under it! It’s also one of my only sweaters. I always tend to think they’re itchy, so I hardly ever purchase any. But I have to admit, Alexander Wang does a pretty good knit. This one has such a beautiful finish in person.

Trying to get some close up photos of my bracelet.  Definitely failed in the close department, but I liked how this one turned out!  I get to pick free jewelry from my internship and this bracelet is a strong contender.  I like its darkly romantic vibe.  It’s also called the Dream Weaver bracelet which you know… just sounds cool.  What do you think?  See it in color on flickr.

It’s Black and White Week!

17 March 2011

So far March is definitely living up to the “in like a lion thing”.  It’s been really windy with no hope of normal-looking hair. Also whenever it’s rained, it has rained.  I’m thinking it’s going to be decidedly soggy this week, which is too bad because I wanted to walk around with my tripod.  But I’ll freak if my camera gets wet… are there raincoats for cameras?  I feel like someone must make those…

It’s Black and White Week so post some black and white photos with Lydia and me!

P.S. Sorry about the awkward lens flare.  It’s green in color so it’s actually kind of festive– I wore this on St. Patrick’s Day last week.  Also, first sandals of spring!  My feet are not in shape for open toes anymore, could definitely feel a blister coming on.

Here Comes The Flood Again

10 March 2011

So yeah, you can see in the background that everything was basically underwater when it rained last week.  My hair got a bit damp and started to curl so I think it looks sort of vintage in these photos.  They got a hold of me while I was in Sephora and I ended up testing the Temptu and having my eye makeup redone.  It always looks so much better when someone does it for me… wish I could stop into Sephora and have that done every day!  I liked the Temptu but I feel like I look a little too made up in these photos, what do you think?  Can you tell the difference?

P.S.  I swear a lot of time actually passed from the last photos and when I wore this shirt again.  I’ve been mildly obsessed with it lately.

Edit:  Also Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  I’m wearing green!

And this is for real what I looked like all day.  Totally hiding under the umbrella as much as possible because the rain was blowing sideways.  There was really no escaping it.

FBFF & Winter Outerwear: Belted Coat

This week for FBFF Katy says:
Finding the balance – I think this is one of the hardest things for us as bloggers to deal with. How do you do it all and still live, work and play as you should?
1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?
Blogging is important to me but I do occasionally skip posting if I’m really pressed for time.  I like to keep up with blogs and social media because I do digital media (sales & marketing dept.) for a jewelry company.  It’s important for me to be on the cutting edge of what’s happening on the web, so I feel like I can sometimes push off other things in order to do blog things.

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?
I do multiple things at once whenever I’m on a computer… which actually isn’t the case when I’m not doing work on a computer.  When I’m writing posts for my blog I’m usually also reading other blogs, editing photos, online shopping, gchatting people, responding to emails, playing Tiny Wings on my phone, watching Bones, cooking, eating…

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?
I always queue posts for the next day, usually for 10am.  I also try to reply to comments on my phone when I have a little time.  I’ve tried to reply with email but I don’t think it works.  That would probably help me though so I should try it again!

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?
I have a rough schedule that I’m trying out, posting Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday.  Before I joined FBFF I used to post Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday, which is still my favorite schedule.  Although I do have a rough idea of when I’ll post photos

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?
I would probably read more blogs actually, not do anything more with my blog.  I’m always lamenting that I don’t even have enough time for the blogs I read now and I think I only follow between 100 and 150 blogs total.  There are so many great blogs I wish I had time to read daily or even weekly!

26 Feb 2011

I don’t have a lot of photos from this day because I was running out somewhere and it was a little dark and cloudy.  These are from so long ago that snow was on the ground.  Sorry, time management and all (that’s why this post is a two-for-one!).  I’ve been less good with posting on my schedule lately.

I’ve been very into black and navy lately, not exactly sure why.  This is one of my lightest winter coats and I actually wear it most in October and March… not exactly the dead of winter!  My other winter outwear posts are VintageSnow FallingThree Old FavoritesSnowstorm of the Week, and Black and White.  Soon hopefully I’ll be posting about spring outerwear?  If the rain lets up!
