Things You Didn’t Know: Winter Edition

IMG_5160

Things You Didn’t Know is a new series on Delayed Missives. It will probably recur every month or so and the content will vary, but I’ll always reveal one fun fact about me. Today’s Things You Didn’t Know is about winter.

Dear Silvergirl,

Not sure if this will come as a surprise to you, but I love winter. I’ve been a winter sports enthusiast my entire life. It all started with skiing when I was a young girl, and a little bit later I picked up figure skating. I am not able to ski as much as I once did (where do you put skis in New York??). However, I still enjoy a good black diamond slope. I’m also a huge fan of off-trail skiing. Not that I recommend that. I don’t. Unless you really know what you’re doing.

Anthropologie Patterns & White Marc Jacobs Skirt

summery anthropologie shirt and white marc jacobs skirt
Dear Christine,

I really liked the colors in this outfit when I put it together. It’s not quite perfect though as I think the proportions are just a little bit off. This Marc Jacobs skirt is a lot of fun because it’s very swishy, but it seriously has a lot of fabric. I’m considering having it altered a bit because the fabric is like… just so much.

I’ve been considering having a lot more of my clothing altered lately. I dislike things that are too tight, so I often buy the next size up and it ends up being too loose… and then I just end up with a lot of clothing that sort of fits but not really.

Autumn Colors

November 11, 2011

I took these photos last week. It’s been pouring here and terribly gloomy. But! I got new boots! After unsuccessfully trying on about ever pair in DSW, I ordered these Born ones from Zappos. They’re very comfortable and fit all my specifications except for the calf size. I’m hoping they don’t loosen up any more or else I’ll have to have them taken in. I haven’t had Born shoes in years and I forgot how well-made they are.

Sometimes funny things happen to me when I’m taking photos. Like a tree branch smacking me in the face.

Did give me the inspiration for the first photo though.

Under the Yellow Tree

November 4, 2011

This tree has since dropped every single one of these pretty yellow leaves. I was hoping they’d hang on for longer, but I think the snowstorm wasn’t too kind to the leaves this year.

The changing seasons always remind me of wabi-sabi (the fleetingness of all things). Fall is the only season I’ve never seen in Japan and I’d love to go and stay for the entire season. I imagine it’s even more beautiful than winter and spring. All the red maple trees must look amazing.

Anthropologie sweater, MM Couture dress, MIA boots, Coach bag (vintage), Talbots scarf, tree necklace (grandmother’s).

Hurricane Before and After

So it was a little windy on Sunday after the hurricane, and unbelievably cool for August although the sun appeared late in the day. I’m still a little behind because of the disruption from the storm.

Everything cleared up rather nicely after the hurricane, although so many people I know were left without power for most of the week.

The rain wasn’t too bad Saturday before the hurricane so I kept my dinner engagement, thankful that I wore my rain boots because the puddles were much larger later in the evening. I wasn’t kidding when I said I’ve become obsessed with this sweater again. It seems like the perfect thing to wear when a heavier knit would be too warm.

And did anyone else with power still available notice Me, Myself & Irene on TV? Terrible timing.

A Close Look at a Favorite Skirt

This is another Visual FBFF from Fashion Beauty Friend Friday. This week it’s hosted by Ashley Getting Dressed and we’re taking a close look at a favorite clothing item. This is one of my favorite skirts, the label is TINY and it’s from Anthropologie. It’s a fairly current from Spring 2011 although it’s no longer available.

The yellow embroidery is my favorite part, followed by the smooth and floaty cotton voile. I also like the gathered panel centered on the waistband. I hung it in a tree to photograph it because I felt like that was something Anthropologie-y to do. A tree that it had rained on earlier. Not my brightest idea, I admit, but the skirt came out fine.

Have a good weekend, friends! If you’re going to be hit by the hurricane then stay safe and don’t go swimming– I did once two days before being evacuated and spent an hour being pulled out into the middle of the ocean. I’m planning on charging all my electronic devices, turning on HBO, and hiding under a blanket.

My favorite outfit with this skirt is from June 5th, 2011. I’m up so late doing this post that it’s past midnight, so I guess I’ll be heading over to Ashley Getting Dressed to post it now!

Sun, Clouds, Rain

9 August 2011

Sometimes I think it’s going to be all sunny and wonderful even if there are supposed to be thunderstorms, so then I wear suede shoes and cream silk. Seriously, I was gearing up for a sunny day, the sun woke me up this morning rather than my phone. Luckily I managed to change out of the shoes and the cream silk is due for a cleaning anyway.
