A Little Bit of Snow

Worn on Tuesday 14 Dec 2010

Oops, you cannot see much of the detail of I’m wearing at all, I forgot to account for the different lighting because of the snow!  I was a little distracted because my beloved tripod finally completely died, it’s been half-broken for around five years.  A lot of my photos from the past week have been serious fails.  But I ordered a replacement and it just arrived yesterday, I haven’t even had a chance to use it yet.

I’m actually pleased with these photos, though!  They were taken with my newest lens, an early Christmas gift from my cousin.  It’s the entry level Canon 35mm but it is fantastic.  More useful than my 50mm and so much better than the kit telephoto!  Serious love.

Francesca’s Collections tee shirt open cardigan thing, J.Crew shirt (you can see the sequins a little bit at least), BDG/Urban Outfitters skirt, Assets by Sara Blakely tights, Arturo Chiang boots.

Decisions Decisions…

Worn on Monday 6 Dec 2010

So I’ve come to a decision about Tumblr.  I’m moving the style blog off it as soon as I can.  If you stalk my twitter, then you know that I’m getting very serious about WordPress and am alternating between elated and despairing— I am not too good at web page design.

The good news is that I will be keeping alexelizabeth.tumblr.com as a personal blog!  I love Tumblr but it just has too many issues for me to keep hosting the style blog, this blog is on my résumé.  Also, I don’t think I’ll have the WordPress up until at least January because I may try to create my own theme (yeah we’ll see how that turns out, I have a bad enough time with über simple Tumblr).

On to what I am wearing: this is a very good example of what I put on when I’m not feeling very imaginative.  And when I’ll be going to a casual dinner party at my friend’s new apartment later.  I don’t really know what I was doing with that necklace, but that’s okay, I’ll consider this look an experiment in black + bold color dressing!

Francesca’s Collections open cardigan, camisole… I think Victoria’s Secret?, Forever 21 necklace, Assets tights (not the chevron ones but still decently opaque!), Sofft shoes.

Red and Pink Mixing

Worn on Wednesday 17 Nov 2010

Thoughts:  Happy Thanksgiving (in the U.S. or if you’re out of the U.S. and celebrate)!

So it was really windy last week.  Great look for me, right?  The hair in the face isn’t too much?  No?  (hahahaa)  I wore this for the day and then out for cocktails/charity benefit with my friend.  Who drank about $40 worth of cocktails and then insisted on a trip to Wendy’s before the end of the night.  The chicken nuggets were good, and I had skipped dinner.

I think this is the first time I’ve ever put pink and red together, although the pink is very small.  The old fashion rule book stated that pink and red should not be mixed… and that even red lipstick must be carefully matched to the outfit (this does actually apply in some cases)!  And here I am breaking the rules (a little) with pink in the pattern of my dress.  I admire people who can mix pink and red separates so well, that’s definitely on my list!!

Tomorrow I have a super special post!  Get ready!

Banana Republic long cardigan, Free People dress, LOFT belt, Assets by Sara Blakely tights (Target), Sofft pointed toe pumps.

Laces Laces

Worn on Saturday 13 Nov 2010

Thoughts: Forgive me, friends, I’m so behind on almost all blogs.  And on posts.  And comments.  Again.  I’ve been asleep in a room with thermal drapes/reading actual books (made of paper!)/listening to Enya since Friday.  I’ve been afflicted with a migraine (the worst I’ve ever had) and treating with Excedrin, espresso, chocolate, and low light.  I believe I’m past the worst of it now though.

So, just a quick post with my new boots.  They’re actually almost flat (maybe a one inch heel) and I’m actually wearing them!

American Apparel dolman sleeve shirt, BDG (Urban Outfitters) skirt, scarf from the art museum in Charleston, LOFT belt, Assets tights, Jeffrey Campbell boots.

Fall and I are Thinking Alike

Worn on Tuesday 11 Nov 2010

Thoughts:  I love to buy things while I’m traveling (especially abroad) because it means the chances that someone else will have it are very slim (not that I wouldn’t buy last year’s fabulous low wedge boots from Target if they were still available).  Especially if it’s one of a jewelry designer’s “it’s the only one I made just like that” kind of pieces.  I got it at the night market in Rome as I was quite desperately speaking English and Italian to the vendor, and I don’t know if I was intelligible at all but I did eventually get the necklace— and by got the necklace I mean I handed over a €20 and received some change.  It was under €20 (maybe under €15, I notoriously can’t count) which is absolutely amazing in Rome at any time, even back in the day in 2005.  Anyway, it’s 5+ years old now and I still have it.  Most of the things I’ve had the longest originated very far away from where they are now and turned out to become some of my favorite pieces.

If you’re looking for comments/notes, I moved them from the post header to the bottom of the post, is that less confusing?  I admit I like them much better at the bottom, it’s more natural not to scroll back up to the top of the post!  It took me a while to figure it out, I’m not as good at coding as I was in high school.  If only I could figure out how to move the post title to the post header… Of course, it would be better if I wasn’t trying to do that last night when tumblr was broken!

LuLus.com blouson (a gift from my cousin last Christmas), necklace from the night market, Joe’s Jeans denim shorts (the find of the summer, $40 from Marshalls), Assets by Sara Blakely tights (Target but no longer available on the website in black), Sofft shoes (looking back… I wish I would have worn different shoes).

Fall Dark and Light

11.7.10 – Sunday

I had a very enjoyable Sunday last weekend!  I met up with my friend from college to go get some quality Asian food and got to meet her room mate… and spent wayyy too much money on Asian groceries, but really, I have to remind myself that I’m not in Asia, it’s going to be more expensive.  I wish I could just go to Asia regularly enough that I could buy groceries there, I really miss the baked goods!

I’m also debuting my new herringbone textured tights, and seriously— highly recommended!  The waistband is non-binding but also stays up.  Incredible.  And I don’t I have to squish myself into them, which is the feeling I get with some shapewear tights.

I’ve worn this skirt many times (many that I never photographed as well), and while it’s really a summer skirt I think it does pretty well with tights too!  I’m looking forward to trying it with burgundy tights soon!
