North of Thirty Fourth

Stylistically a little bit different than my usual appearance, right? That’s because I had a photographer and two other people yelling direction at me. I seldom find myself this far uptown as well. Different feel to the neighborhood….

Grey, Gold, and a Lydia Skirt

Dear Shen Dove,

It’s looking a little Wendy’s Lookbook here today, but actually I just thought it would be a fantastic idea to use a bench instead of a tripod. It’s not. Unless you have a GorillaPod, and I do, except… yeah. Forgot it in Pennsylvania. I could straighten the photos in Aperture, but what would be the fun in that?…

Stripes on the Pier and Important Things

Dear Mia,

What a difference a week can make when it comes to spring weather. Burning up in a light wrap one moment, bundled in a coat the next. This is my often neglected Forever 21 dress. It didn’t get very much use over the winter because it requires constant attention (even with a slip). I love it because of the chevron bodice, but it’s best left for warmer temperatures. …

Waterfront Sunset

Dear Nnenna,

I’ve been doing a lot of sunset photography in addition to all the night photos we’ve been taking over the past few weeks. I love when it’s a little bit cloudy and all the colors are more vibrant… probably because I always seem to be wearing black when there’s a pretty sunset around. But this was a cloudless, clear day, so there’s only a hint of gold and pink. …

On the Rocks at Sunset

Dear Kelsey,

Always a challenge to shoot directly into a sunset. I feel like I get it right about 50% of the time, and the other 50 is a complete disaster. Can barely see what I’m wearing, too. I promise you it’s all opaque black except for the wrapped and tied Francesca’s cardigan, which is a little sheer. …

Actually Under the Manhattan Bridge

Dear Caitlin,

Man Repelling like a champion, I know (at least that’s what my friend said one of the last times I wore this skirt). Obviously I still wear it anyway. It’s a crazy skirt, I know, but bloggers are totally obligated to wear crazy things, right? And I don’t really care if people stare at it… it’s a great statement piece. …

Black and Blue on the Pier

I’ve started a new internship in Vinegar Hill, minutes from DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park. I can’t not take advantage of the great background for photos, which is why so many of my photos lately have been taken in this area. The great part is that I don’t always have to carry my tripod. The big steps by the carousel and the playground are the perfect height to put a camera on (as long as it’s not in the path of any children playing tag). …

At St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery

Dear Shen Dove,

File under: Things I Never Knew About New York. Apparently the church courtyard Nnenna and I are fond of using to take photos is the second-oldest in Manhattan. I didn’t even know it was still used for religious services as the inside’s been totally gutted, leaving it minimalistic, echoing, and white. And the last time we were there it was being used for a concert. …

Skinny Jeans and Stripes

Dear Mia,

Sometimes I try to be casual, but I’m never sure if I actually like it. A lot of the time it feels weird to me… and then I end up wearing heels. I wanted to do something different with the oft-seen black open cardigan, so naturally I tied it in a knot. I wasn’t really sure what to do with it. …
