Red, White, and Pink

Dear Shen Dove,

Happy late Memorial Day!… from in front of the Tudor house with the American flag, haha. It’s been a rather busy week for me and I have tons of blog reading to do. Did manage to wear this skirt, though. The blue skirt Lydia made for me gets more love than the red. I foresee the red being an excellent summer skirt. It’s lighter weight than the blue. Very airy.

#EclosBeauty Skin Care Review and Giveaway

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of éclos Skin Care. All opinions are 100% mine.

Several weeks ago, éclos beauty asked if I would review their Anti-Aging Skin Care Starter Kit, which contains stem cells extracted from the Swiss Uttwiler Spätlauber apple. I read about apple stem cells being used for skincare products years ago in Allure, but definitely couldn’t afford the high price points– at the time, skin care products containing apple stem cells were priced into the thousands.

Before and After Madewell

Dear Lydia,

If you’ve seen my Instagram or Twitter lately, you know that Nnenna and I attended one of the Madewell Style Sessions last week. We planned on a little primping at the Refinery29 Beauty on Wheels event, but when we got there they were no longer accepting people for makeovers. We headed to MAC instead, where we tried some fabulous lip colors, then on to Madewell. Madewell was fun (sweet treats, drinks, and discounts!), and we tried on a lot of things but neither of us bought anything. I’d love to buy shorts for summer, but Madewell and J.Crew bottoms tend to be cut too curvy for me. And no tailor I know will agree to take denim in through the hip.

May Showers Bring July Weddings

Dear Nnenna,

Ever have one of those days when you definitely wore too much makeup? It happens to me when I don’t think about what lipstick I’ll be wearing and put a ton of eyeshadow on. The lipstick I’m wearing here is MAC So Chaud (which you probably already guessed because I got it with you) and the shadow is from my beloved Urban Decay Naked Palette. I could use that thing for the rest of my life, so I hope it’s never discontinued. …

Brooklyn in the Morning

Dear Silvergirl,

Isn’t DUMBO great in the morning? It’s very quiet and barely feels like New York. I love taking photos in the park when it’s early. Except for the occasional jogger or dog walker, hardly anyone is around. It’s easier to get photos when people aren’t wandering into your frame.

Black and Nude in the Spring

Dear Dotty,

If only there wasn’t a paved road back there… then I could pretend that this was an actual forest. These are the first outfit photos I took with the Sony Alpha Nex-5N. Sometimes it doesn’t like focusing directly on me, but I’m determined to get bokeh out of the lens. I know it can be done, even if it’s not as nice as the stuff my Canon can produce.

Twenty-Five

Dear Kelsey,

So I organized a small blogger meetup for my birthday this year. Nnenna was there, and Hope, and Kristine (who has a blog but doesn’t use it– we need to encourage her), and some other non-blogger friends as well. I’ve also decided that from now on my birthday is May 5th. No one tell, okay? Everyone is more fun on the 5th than the 6th, and let’s face it– I’ve always been a little suspicious of my Korean birth certificate. My Korean passport photo is pretty hilarious, too.

Some New Things After the Break

Dear Caitlin,

Sorry for the long, unexpected break, my friend. Been a bit busy lately– visitors, holidays, bridesmaid things… but things are settling down (so I think).

I got a new camera and took these photos with it. It’s the Sony Alpha Nex-5N mirrorless SLR. I have both the kit 18-55mm and 16mm lenses, which I’m experimenting with. This is the kit at 35mm, ƒ4.5. Performs wonderfully, though it needs a little tweaking with colors. They look a bit too saturated to me, so I’ll have to look into fixing that. There are just so many different settings for this camera. And of course, I refuse to read the manual. I don’t want to have to rely on the book and like to gain some real experience with the thing before I get obsessed with having control over all the settings.
