Photo Diary: Life in the Country, Part Two

Dear Nnenna,

I think sometimes it’s nice to visit the countryside, but honestly it’s always such a relief to return to New York and wander the streets and have Seamless for food delivery. I can never quite decide if the quiet is peaceful or tiresome. Silence can be just as grating as noise from the street (which generally I find comforting, ha).

Things are so much less expensive though. Artisanal scones for $2? Thanks and I’ll take two :) And Target is such a delightful place. And driving! I’ve missed being in the rush of cars instead of standing next to them.

Hover over for extra photo details, as usual.

The Casual Black Alexander Wang Suit

Dear Silvergirl,

This Alexander Wang ponte jacket and matching skirt are great pieces because they’re a little bit structured yet still very comfortable.

I was in a bit of a rush to get out the door, so I didn’t take many photos. I’ve been favoring a lot of minimalistic all black looks lately and softening them up with my curly hair. They’re more at home in New York than here amongst the trees, but I wear them anyway. I also walk around the neighborhood in my heels and people look at me oddly. Oh well. I won’t give them up, although I do wear my flat boots if I have to go any appreciable distance.

I’m carrying my Coach bag (as usual) and wearing my T by Alexander wang jacket and skirt, Laugh Cry Repeat by AZFN shirt, HUE tights, and MIA ankle boots.

Stripes and Leather

Dear Kelsey,

Lately I’ve been playing with props in my photos, like the leaf in my hair and the leaves in my face. Then I decided a tree branch would make an appearance, except it wouldn’t go in my hair so I didn’t know what to do with it.

So this is my new striped shirt. I now own two! I got one from a swap, and this one is from Ann Taylor during a ridiculously good sale. $6 well spent. I’m also wearing my ancient Talbots scarf, Gap skirt, and Jeffrey Campbell boots (other colors).

I can’t believe how long the warm weather’s been holding, but I’m definitely enjoying it!

Evening Journeys

December 2, 2011
Dear Caitlin,

So what else have I been doing lately? Trying to refine my low light photography (I’ll let you know if I ever create a decent formula) and playing with Camera+ on my iPhone 4S. So glad I upgraded my phone instead of getting a new point-and-shoot. The phone was cheaper! And it’s far more useful than just another camera.

I’m wearing my new Simply Vera by Vera Wang for Kohl’s jacket (I’ve been hunting this thing for a month), American Apparel shirt, J.Crew skirt, Assets by Sara Blakely tights, and Born boots.

Introducing Letters to Friends

Letters to Friends is something I dreamt up a long time ago when I was branding Delayed Missives. When I was first setting up this site on WordPress.org, I imagined that each post would read like a letter.

But… I decided that I didn’t like addressing posts to “dear readers” or “dear friends”, which you may remember from my experimenting in the past. Then I came up with the idea that I’d address each post to a different blog friend.

So, dear readers, if you’d like to help me with my blog theme — and also get some free press — you can submit your site and I’ll write you a blog post letter. I’ll include your name and link to your blog, or if you don’t have a blog it can be your Twitter, Pinterest, etc. I promise to rotate everyone in some semblance of order.

It’ll look something like this in the layout:

We’ll see how it goes, but maybe one day the Letters to Friends will evolve into a full-blown blogger network! I think that would be pretty cool.

If you’d like a letter, I’ve made it easy for you with a Contact Me form. Just fill it in!
