twenty. three.

5.6.2010 Thursday and tumblr did not save my draft the only time I have wanted it to…

My birthday!  I was out for lunch and dinner.  Yum!  I’ve heard twenty three is a difficult birthday and the recommended course of action is to wallow about old age for at least half the day and then go perk up with some Starbucks.  I napped and perked up with some Starbucks… before dinner.

I wanted to photograph this dress in full sun but overexposure was a huge problem — so bright!  So here it is in sun/shade and it appears to have a splotchy pattern… that mysteriously moves in each photo!

I received my first present from the mailman… well really from Christi.  The scarf and necklace are from her and I decided to wear them as I was getting dressed and talking to her on gchat.  She was glad she could accessorize my outfit without trying! :)  This is a relatively new Diane von Furstenberg dress, although it’s actually from S/S ‘09 collection and deeply discounted on Yoox.  I may wear it to a wedding in June but I am not sure.  It’s quite sheer and I feel it makes my hips look unusually wide due to the volume at the sides.  You can see where it’s folded at the waist, otherwise part of the dress sticks straight out of the body and thank goodness for the wide sash!  It also has very, very high side slits… it is actually from the soleil + swim line.  So I’m now questioning if I am going to wear it.  We’ll see!  I think I definitely have to test run it again sometime this month!

Yellow dress (Diane von Furstenberg), peacock print scarf (somewhere in Manhattan Beach), turquoise necklace (vintage from a store in Austin), tan wedge sandals (Steve Madden).

Back

5.5.2010 Wednesday

I’m back from Atlantic City and severely underslept… and no caffeine today either, except for tea.  I have a lot of back posts again and this seems to happen to me a lot.  Maybe I should get myself on some kind of a schedule or something?

I wore quite a bit of yellow over the course about seven days… the next photos I have are seriously yellow!  It was apparently just a yellow kind of week :)

Grey shirt (Old Navy), yellow skirt (Odille – Anthropologie), brown belt (Charlotte Russe), nude shoes (Sofft).

Tropical Weather

5.2.2010

This is something I would wear on a casual day, a day most other bloggers probably wouldn’t bother with a photo.  This is not one of my more inspired looks but it was probably the best possible one for the weather.  It was hot.  And not hot in a good way because the temperature was stuck somewhere around ninety and the humidity at around 300%.  August thunderstorm kind of weather.

My knee with the big scar was seriously bothering me during yoga on Saturday and didn’t improve on Sunday (still so wobbly! and it swelled badly and there is fluid still there… I have actual water on the knee) so I had to wear wedge sandals.  And with the curly hair I unfortunately went sort of beachy… as beachy as one can be in overcast skies at not the beach!

I did quite a lot of shopping.  Bad!

I leave you with a photo of my fish, I wished I was swimming in some cool water!

Blue shirt (Old Navy), striped ribbon belt (J. Crew), patterend skirt (J. Crew), brown wedges (J. Crew), brown bag (Marc Jacobs Collection).

Mink Pink Mink Yellow

4.30.2010  Friday

Extremely late post.  It was maybe touch warm for the sweater last Friday but I really liked the yellow — better than the short sleeved grey I almost wore.  My friend was home from medical school in Dominica so we got together for a bit!  We are always on Skype so we actually see each other often!  It’s a bit different than totally in person though.  She can’t steal my Vegan Treats through the computer!

In more updated news, I’m leaving for Atlantic City today and won’t be back until Sunday.  I have a look or two for the queue though!

Yellow sweater (J. Crew), black and white dress (Mink Pink), nude platform pumps (Sofft).

Yes… They are Jeggings

4.29.2010 Thursday

Debut of the jeggings.  I’ve had these for a while but just never got any photos of them.  I wore this to a casual lunch with one of my friends… and proceeded to stuff myself with a plate of pasta.  And a whole bunch of bread.  I guess it’s lucky that these jeggings are a bit too big for me, then.  I definitely couldn’t have gotten into the next size down though.  Maybe these are a little too long on me or something?  I can’t help but think jeggings should fit closer to the leg.  These are more like straight leg/skinny jeans on me.

I’m trying out a different way of letting you know what I’m wearing… it’s the way you’re supposed to describe things on Mode Republic.  So really I’m just being lazy :)

Green shirt (Old Navy), grey and white striped cardigan (Ann Taylor Loft), brown leather belt (Target), green and white scarf (Intermix), light blue jeggings (J Brand), nude pumps (Sofft).

Fun With Antique Filters

4.28.2010 Wednesday

Sadly this yellow dress kept sticking to my tights throughout the day — despite the lining!  I guess this is a no tights kind of dress so luckily it’s becoming warmer.  I feel as if spring was very cold again this year.  I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but I do know that last year spring was legitimately cold.  It snowed the last week in April of 2009.  I’m not sure that I’ll find spring warm again until… maybe sometime in the next few years?  After spending spring in Japan I feel as if the temperatures should go up into the 60s during March… and that just doesn’t happen this far north!

According to the second photo it’s currently Halloween.  I wonder how long that pumpkin has been there.  Since Halloween?  Maybe even Halloween 2008!

Grey leopard print cardigan (Old Navy), yellow dress (Velvet), gold belt (Shimamura (Japan)), grey tights (HUE), navy and white shoes (Lela Rose for Payless).

Dress Up… Sort of

4.24.2010 Saturday

These are from a week ago when I went to my sorority’s alumnae gala.  We were celebrating 25 years at the university.  It was great to have so many of us back together again!  A lot of us are spread out and don’t have a chance to see each other much any more.

I should have thought to wear my pin — bad!  But thankfully I wasn’t the only one.  I got this dress last year in Willemstad, Curaçao in the Netherlands Antilles.  It’s by an independent designer from Indonesia.  I really loved the store but prices were out of control so I only got this one dress.

From Curaçao dress, Banana Republic sandals.
