Dear Kelsey,
Head-to-toe crazy pink seahorses on a chevron background– full length photos from this outfit snippet post have finally been caught on camera. This pink seahorse dress is my favorite dress of the summer. It feels like the clothing of my younger years, back when I used to wear old school J.Crew every day.
The pink seahorse and blue chevron pattern is really intense, though. Wearing patterns sometimes makes me feel very conspicuous so I don’t have very many of them. However, this one was just too good to pass up. …

Dear Katha,
Lately it’s been scorching hot stateside, though luckily there have been one or two occasional cool days. Without those I might turn into a blob of goo for the summer and not reform until October and our lovely fall season returns.
I’ve been trying to go lighter lately, so I’ve been taking just a small bag (or what passes for small for me) with the bare minimum of things I need. …

Dear Chrissy,
I wanted to try out the indoor photo studio thing… yeah, still working out the kinks. Not completely terrible, I just need to work on the lighting and focus. I think the indoor studio might be happening a lot this summer… I’m already over the humidity and it’s only June! I don’t know how I’m going to survive the rest of summer. …

New York is finally being graced with sun and blooming flowers– it’s trench coat weather (my favorite)! Even if it is a practically balmy 55 degrees by late afternoon, early mornings and late evenings are still a bit cool for bare legs. I’ve been saved from either freezing or burning by Hanes legwear, which I’ve been wearing during this change of season. …

So… about spring… it has definitely not sprung yet. It’s a bit cold, very windy, and I really did think we were past the ice storm part of the season. I love snow, but I do get tired of the slush that makes the city a mess. Though when it’s warm I get tired of New York by the end of August when it’s been 100 degrees for three weeks straight and can we all just please go to Ireland for a little while and cool off? I guess that means I appreciate the seasons. I am looking forward to leaves on the trees. …

Ahh the perks of being a style blogger. Fashion week, fun events, millions of free nail polishes… constant paranoia that someone’s in your frame. All in a good day’s work.
This offensively bright ensemble is what I ended up wearing to brunch at Punch. More than a year later and I’m still trying to break in these Pour La Victoire flats. I love how they look but they’re very tough on my feet. …

Welcome to Letters from the City, a lifestyle photoblog.
My name is Alex and I have been blogging in some form or another since 1998. I’m a former Manhattanite now living the quieter life in Brooklyn. I like outerwear and red lipstick.
When I was younger, I was let loose in a GAP Kids one too many times, resulting in many of the fashion choices you see here in my photos. I also read, traveled, and took cooking and art classes. Art eventually led me around to photography, and to this day I do enjoy a good brunch.
