Biiiig Scarf

10 Feb 2011

Fellow personal style blogger and stylish person Lydia was nice enough to send me an amazing email when I was searching for some inspiration, and it included this photo:

I’m not sure where this is from, maybe The Sartorialist or Stockholm Street Style?

Sort of?  No?  I feel like my scarf isn’t long enough to be that cool!

Like most of my clothing, this scarf has a memory.  New Year’s Eve, New York, frozen feet (ballet flats), not an available cab in sight.  I had to duck into Juicy Couture (I was twenty one at the time) and this scarf was on sale.  I loved the cream version I saw earlier in the fall but in person the grey just spoke to me, and the rest is history.

Wishing you good clothing memories and nice weather!

Love,

Alex

Safety Conscious Scarf

Worn on Wednesday 10 Nov 2010

Thoughts:  Seriously though, you could take someone out with this thing.  This scarf is another one of my winter favorites!  I bought it on New Year’s Eve… 2008? when I was walking across the island of Manhattan (okay so it was 8th to Lexington but it was freezing that day!) to the 6 train because by 3 pm there was not a free taxi in sight.  I think it really was 15 degrees or something, and this idiot was wearing the skinny jeans pictured along with tights and ballet flats (idiot idiot idiot), so I decided I really needed to stop in H&M to (1) defrost my feet and (2) purchase sweater tights.  And then two blocks later I decided I really needed to stop in Juicy Couture to (1) defrost my feet again and (2) purchase a gigantic scarf that required a gigantic pink bag.

I don’t think staggeringly impractical even begins to describe this scarf— sure, I love the color and the little sparkles but this thing is HUGE.  If I hit you with one of the yarn balls on the end you would probably fall over.  You might even bruise.  I feel like I wear this scarf less than five times per fall/winter season, so I’m going to challenge myself to wear it more often, even if it’s just with a winter coat.  This is not really a scarf that’s  good for wearing indoors (well maybe if the temperature is less than 50 degrees).

And typically… I don’t photograph looks like this one any more.  They’re much too uninspired?  Regular?  So now you know what I’m wearing if there are no photos for a day during winter.  I just had to take photos this day, I happened to walk outside during the five or ten minute window in which the light is pink (!!) and wonderful.  So yes, if the photos look pink it’s because everything was pink when I took them!

Last of Summer: Bohemian…ish

8.31.10 ~ Tuesday ~ Goodbye August

Does my hair look softer?  I tried.  The very straight look I’ve been sporting lately just doesn’t go very well with this dress and makes me wish for my usual slightly longer, curly hair.  I haven’t worn this dress as much as in summer past because, yes, I don’t think my hair goes with it.  Also, I always have a problem deciding on shoes!  I have very minimalist gold leather sandals that go well with this.  But they are flats.  And I think we all know how I feel about flats.  For traveling only, and then only when absolutely necessary.  So I just can’t wear them casually during the day.  Can’t.

Happy Independence Day + Sparklers

7.4.2010 ~ Independence Day

Does this dress look familiar?  I don’t have a lot of red white and blue that can be worn together, so I repeated this dress with some bright red lipstick!  Neither of my red belts worked with it, I think it might have been the terrycloth or the belts were too wide.  I altered this dress slightly because I thought there was something wrong with the straps and I was totally right they were different lengths!  Now they’re attached to the top of the dress in a little ruffle.  I think my broad shoulders also look better without the straps — too thin!  I should really learn to wear sleeves!  What do you think, better than here?

In the Summertime

6.25.2010 ~ Friday

Summer weather is officially here!  It’s been holding steady in the 80s and 90s with extreme humidity and no end in sight!  Time to switch to breezy summer dresses!  This is a recent purchase, but I can see it belonging to the group of dresses I have that are labeled 90+ degrees days.  They’re the lightest, most comfortable in the heat kind of dresses I own.

I also have photos of what I wore to the opening night of a musical later on during the evening.  I went to Starbucks in this, and not really much else.  They’ll be up in another post.

What do you think of the shoes and bag?  Too strange a color combination?  The shoes are officially listed as silver by Sofft but I think they are more of a metallic nude.  And the bag is called aluminum grey or something like that — it’s a dark grey, no metallic.
