Black and Blue on 12th Ave
Cynthia Rowley dress | Stuart Weitzman Forsure pumps | vintage necklace | Ippolita earrings | photos: star-crossed smile
Yes, these were totally taken during fashion week. Just down the street from the amazing Birchbox Sample Stop, where I didn’t really take any photos because I was admiring the wall of beauty products. I’ve got some beauty reviews to write, but a clear favorite so far is the Beauty Blender, an amazing little hot pink makeup sponge.
And maple bacon chocolate is a lot better than I thought it would be.
Leopard, Magenta and Red in the Woods
Dear Shen Dove,
It’s still summer in North Carolina, still mild and the leaves aren’t on the ground yet. I flew south for the winter for a wedding and this was my traveling outfit. Picture it at LaGuardia at 6am (with an oxblood jacket). Totally ridiculous, but I’m sure you’re not surprised. …
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm Review
In the mirror at the Clarins lounge.
One fashion week day during a break between shows, Chris, Lindsay, and I stopped by the tranquil and spa-like (i.e. I loved it) Clarins Beauty Flash Lounge in the Empire Hotel. I just asked for a bit of undereye help that day, but my makeup artist convinced me to do a full touch up with Clarins Beauty Flash and new foundation. She gave me some tips for application and we discussed sponge vs. fingertips methods.
At midnight my makeup still looked great.
That’s kind of an impossible feat for me (I think at least half my makeup disappears by noon every day), so I was sold on Beauty Flash. It’s the best primer I’ve ever used and even beats out my regular favorites from Smashbox, Laura Mercier, and L’Oreal. I’ve been testing Beauty Flash for about a month now, and it even saw me through a 5am wake up for an early flight to a midnight party… without a single touch up.

Clarins Beauty Flash is both brightening and tightening, so I found that if you have dry skin (me) it’s definitely best to moisturize before using Beauty Flash, then go on with your beauty products as usual.
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is available for $45/1.7 fl. oz. on the Clarins website, at Nordstrom.com with free shipping, and at Sephora.com.
Disclosure: I grabbed a complimentary full-size tube of Beauty Flash ($45 retail value) on my way out of the lounge.
Summer Photo Diary One
It’s definitely well into October, but surprise– I still have many photos from summer. Some adventures around New York and fun happenings like meeting up with blogger friends during fashion week follow. …
Monochrome
Dear Mia,
I thought that this would look like a mod, 60s-ish little dress when I put it together, but… not really. Maybe the neon pink skirt would have been better. Next summer. …

Blue Dots and Stripes
Dear Lydia,
I won this eShakti dress from a giveaway thanks to the lovely Jill Seiman (creator of Glamamom). This dress is no longer available on eshakti.com, but this trompe l’oeil dress in a similar style is part of the current fall collection. …
J.Jill Fall Preview
Photo c/o J.Jill
Thursday morning I stopped by the J.Jill preview before running uptown to work. Several women I know are huge fans of J.Jill, and you might remember one of my black sweaters as being J.Jill (recently worn in the rain and on the East River). I always associate J.Jill with quality basics and classic styles. …
