I Wish It Could Be Like This Every Day

3.24.2010

I can barely move.  I took the level 2&3 Ashtanga full primary series class on Tuesday.  My shoulders are like rubber.  I can’t lift anything heavier than my (actually pretty heavy) bag.  I hope I’ll make it through power fusion tomorrow!

I made a sort of obi belt out of a very large scarf.  It was a Christmas gift from a friend but I waited until now to wear it… I just couldn’t figure out how to wear the lime green color in the Northeast during the winter.  Which means clearly I should have gone to Miami for the new year, don’t know what I was thinking when I decided not to go!

I wish it could be this sunny every day.  And I wish I could go to happy hour/dinner with my friends every day.  We had some very good things to eat, including pork and shrimp dumplings, and the best calamari I’ve had in probably more than year :)

Not a lot to do at work today but answer the phones and take messages.  I’m sitting here eating a Cup-a-Soup and I’ve been writing blog posts all morning!

Some New Arrivals at J. Crew

Saw this in the window yesterday with a cardigan and shorts (I think).  Loved it. It’s much more vibrant in person. Not for $150. Watercolor garden shell

This, maybe I can justify.  Especially because in June I’ll be at a wedding in Virginia.  On a plantation. Watercolor garden Bridget dress

Although… I’m a little bit inclined to look for something full length to wear to the wedding.  Not necessarily this dress because I’m not sure that the pattern is good for me — I’m probably too petite.  But I like the idea of a long, flowing skirt at a wedding in the South.  And maybe a hat. I sort of look like I stepped right out of J. Crew March. I really like my new snow leopard cardigan, especially because I had Gap Give and Get (friends and family) 30% off everything!  I debated between a plain grey cardigan with beading embellishment by the collar and the snow leopard print cardigan — snow leopard for the win!  It just added a little something to the look overall, I think.

I love these new Sofft platforms!  They are great everyday shoes, comfortable and stable.  I have to admit that they do give me a touch of ankle pain, although that could be an anatomical defect (I have a bad right ankle and a bad left knee, both from old injuries).  Otherwise fab, if a little narrow on my wide feet!  This is another slightly unusual look for me.  I don’t usually look so J. Crew although I have a lot of clothing from there.  I sort of feel like I walked off the pages of the March catalogue and out into real life!

New Polka Dots

3.22.10

I’ve been sitting on this photo for a few days trying to decide whether or not to post it… none of them came out too well, it was dark and rainy all day.  And by dark I mean 6 p.m.  dark.  Or maybe 5 a.m. dark because it just never got light?

My shirt is kind of coming out of the skirt… oops.  I got an email from someone at ModeRepublic.com today inviting me to submit photos.  Has anyone ever heard of them?

Signs of Spring

3.19.2010

What am I doing in the first photo?  :)  I don’t know, burst caught me in a funny position but almost all the others are severely overexposed.  Bright bright sun.

I was baaaad… Gap Inc. friends and family.  30% off anything, and I still have a few invitations left if you want it! This is an unusual look for me, very casual but sort of fashion forward at the same time?  Those are the new (relatively) Banana Republic slouchy skinny jeans.  They have a really decent fit although they’ve already totally stretched out — belt needed! — and they really need to be hemmed.  Boyfriend jeans don’t work on me at all and are just too big so I’m glad I finally found some slouchy skinny jeans for the loose-but-not-huge look.  And at 30% off they are totally worth it.  I wouldn’t have bought them at retail because I think they’re overpriced.  Those are some new shoes too, part of my commitment to comfort shoes.  They are like clouds.  However they do need to be stretched for my poor squashed wide toes!

Tomorrow is the first day of spring!  What should I wear in celebration?  The trees are almost blooming and the pond fish woke up and actually move!

Sink into the Earth

3.17.2010

No green today, although so-dark-it’s-almost-black green is one of my favorite colors.  I just don’t own very much green.  I feel as if pale green is a more common color for clothing and it’s not very good against my skin tone.  I’m sure at least half of my friends are already wasted, but I have no plans for tonight.  I’m sure I could still make some so I might… after yoga.  I’m doing hatha tonight which I haven’t done in years.  So slow.  But I’m hoping it’s rehabilitative because my knee has been giving me a lot of pain lately.

The ground is still so spongy and soft from all the rain!  I was on my toes for all of these photos, just the slightest pressure on the heels and I sunk more than an inch!  I hope it firms up a little, very uncomfortable to walk on the toes!

My new stockings have a huge run in them!  It appeared at work today sometime during the morning and for no apparent reason.  It was in the front over the left knee but I switched it around to the back in the bathroom.  Very sad, considering these were more than $7 and supposed to be a little better than the L’eggs I keep putting my hand through.  I think I’ll spring for Assets at $16 because at least I know they’ll last.  Assets are made by the same woman who created Spanx and are a really decent (if not appreciably less expensive) alternative.  My sheer black Assets stockings have help up really well over the past… three months?  Two months?  That’s much better than all my other (cheaper) stockings that ended up with holes after only one or two times of wearing them!

Remixed

3.16.2010

:) oops this is oddly disproportionate-looking due to the pose and the slight dolman sleeve of the sweater.  Ohhh well.

First really warm weather of the year!  And supposedly the temperature will be in the mid-60s for the remainder of the week.  I had my car washed so it’s now clean for the first time this year :)

I wore this to work and was too hot :P  The heat is still on there and if it gets too warm and stuffy in the spring I’m likely to have an asthma attack.  Boo seasonal allergies.  My fall ones are nearly as bad, although I’ve had four asthma attacks in less than a year which is a fairly high number for me.  I really need to steal a non-expired inhaler from someone… my last one expired two years ago.  Oops?

I went to Sephora today (I was so bad) and came away with an insane amount of samples!  At least five.  The skincare expert there today was nice enough to thoroughly go over my skin with me and make a week’s worth of samples.  She really knew what she was talking about and had a beautiful complexion, so crossing fingers!  My skin’s changed a lot lately… I think it’s aging.  I’m just getting old and getting dry old easily irritated skin :(  I love samples though.  Very exciting!  I hope these new products work!

Good God my legs are like twenty shades darker than the rest of me… Hanes stocking are apparently for medium skin tones.  Maybe I’ll try Spanx next?  They tend to be more expensive but also more substantial.  And lighter in color.  I’ve already put my hand through four pairs of L’eggs over the winter season.  It looks like my right ankle is a little swollen too.  My knee is already bothering me from power yoga and ashtanga :(  I should probably try to abuse it less but that never works out.

I’m debuting one of my Liberty of London for Target purchases!  I also got a gown from the lingerie section that I thought would be perfect as a swimsuit cover up.  It’s pink and yellow and very summery!

Liberty of London for Target shirt (really a robe, found in the lingerie section), Old Navy camisole underneath, American Apparel skirt, HAnes stockings, Anne Klein shoes.

Pencil Skirt

3.12.2010

I love pencil skirts but I am very hard to fit in them.  They always end up too tight in the waist and too large in the hips and thighs :(  But this Banana Republic skirt (from more than a years ago) fits pretty well, although sadly their new skirts don’t fit me at all.  They must have redone their sizing.

This is late late late from Friday!  Oops!

Fun With Filters/First Hat of Spring

3.11.2010

So my friend and I have this commitment to start a hat collection.  For, you know, when we are ladies who lunch (or at least for when I am – she’ll be a busy doctor who skips lunch).  This is the hat that inspired the idea.  So far we have this and a black satin fedora.  We’re not doing too well so far.  I think we definitely need some vintage pillbox hats for spring!

This ABS skirt is a little too big for me.  It’s a DIY and was actually a dress that was way too big for me.  It’s much better as a skirt.  Trust me, you didn’t want to see the dress.

Not sure how I feel about this bubble shirt not being tucked into something.  I wanted to tuck in the skirt but even though it’s lined the shirt was very visible underneath… so out it is!  But I think from now on… probably in.  I definitely wanted to try it though… one of most important things in fashion is trying things, at least to me.

Seriously, Alex… get some sleep.  Or some damn good eye cream. Or just wear sunglasses all the time.

And get you hair cut too.

Seriously.

Forever 21 coat, J. Crew hat, shirt from Francesca’s Collections, ABS skirt, Disney Store belt ($8 from the pirate section, no lie), DKNY nude fishnet stockings, Lela Rose for Payless shoes.
