Flap Flap

2.27.10

I look silly in the second photo. Trying to work on posing :)  It was windy on Saturday, you can see my hair blowing around a bit in the first photo.  I’m wearing my new favorite American Apparel shirt with dolman sleeves and sometimes I feel a bit like I have wings!

Bright

2.26.10

Playing catch up.  These photos were taken Friday.  It was extremely bright outside for most of day, hence my intense, almost model stare in the third photo.  I can hardly remember what I did on Friday… I went to work extremely late due to the snow storm.  I also got a new dress from Francesca’s Collections (bad I know but I had 20% off).  And then probably nothing else but talk to far away friends on Gmail :)  Not a partying night — too much snow to still remove/plow.  I do miss my 4 days/week partying!

Snowellingtons

2.25.10

It snowed a ton of light, fluffy snow today so I had some fun kicking it around and making it fly!  It didn’t accumulate on the roads or sidewalks at all because it was too warm.  I wore my wellingtons today for a change and because I anticipated slush.  No slush but there were huge puddles everywhere!

Do I look like I should be in Asia with this umbrella?  I can’t remember if it’s common — or at least not uncommon — in the U.S. to carry an umbrella in the snow.  I used to in Japan when it snowed for the entire month of February but I don’t think I was actually outside when it was snowing last year.  I can’t remember being outside in the snow except for the last day of classes (during the last week of April) when it was snowing as I walked to class.  I hope that doesn’t happen again this year!

The Browns

I recently figured out that I hardly ever wear brown any more, and the same goes for pink.  I used to have a lot of pink and brown but in the past few years I’ve been collecting brown only in shoes and bags!  I haven’t worn these brown tights in a long time and I thought brown would look better than my usual tights colors with this shirt and skirt.  The leopard pumps are some of my favorites because for 3 inch heels they are decently comfortable and good for walking.  Definitely not for an entire day, but I think I could get about three hours out of them.  However, I cannot stand in them at all!  I once wore them to a museum in D.C. where everyone in the group was moving so. slowly.  Standing standing standing.  I think I can only wear them for about an hour if I have to stand and not walk… I don’t know why, that’s kind of strange, isn’t it?

Oh dear, my hair is a puffball.  I really need Living Proof Wave Shaping, Curl Defining No Frizz Styling Treatment for Thick to Coarse Hair.  I already have the Straight Making treatment and it is beyond fabulous.  My hair was rained on four times yesterday and still managed stay straight and frizz-free, only getting a bit wispy at the ends by the end of the day.  I only have Frédéric Fekkai’s Wave Creating Spray in my hair here, which isn’t made to combat frizz at all!  Probably a mistake in this weather.  It seems odd but my hair probably would have looked better blown straight!

I forget shirt from Francesca’s Collections, J. Crew skirt, J. Crew belt, HUE tights (brown!), Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters) shoes.  Antik Batik scarf, Mossimo (target) cape, I forget gloves.

Under the Rainforest

2.23.10

I suppose I was thinking of spring…?  But the weather was anything but springy!  It poured the entire day, turning into an ice storm around 4 pm.  It was terribly dark all day, even at 9:30 am which is when these photos were taken.  Does that look like 9:30 am to you?  Yeah, definitely not!  I’m hoping for better tomorrow, but it just looks like more rain and ice until, apparently, Friday.

I tried to go buy this vintage Oscar de la Renta silk scarf I saw online at the actual boutique.  Unfortunately it had already been sold!  There was a fabulous hot pink blouse I tried on too but it was a vintage size 6, seriously who am I kidding?  There’s absolutely no way it would have fit me!  So now I’m drowning my sorrows at We Love Colors.  One can never have too many tights, and at What I Wore there’s a code for 10% off and free shipping in the sponsor bar… why not?  At least 70% of my tights are black so it’s about time that I add some color!

Dots

2.22.10 available light forecast: overcast yet oddly bright

My friend told me I looked like Marilyn Monroe… somehow I just don’t see it :)  But I can see how this looks very vintage/1950s with the full circle skirt and polka dots!  The shoes are actually vintage from an annual pop-up thrift store and one of my best purchases ever!  I wore them so much when I was younger (high school? maybe early college) that I’ve had to have them repaired twice.  The skirt is fairly recent from Forever 21’s Twist collection.  When I saw it in the store I knew I loved the pattern but the poufy mesh puffed sleeves had to go — I’ve seen the original dress look great on people but cap sleeves never look good on me, my shoulders are far too broad!  I blame too many gymnastics and swimming lessons!

My Idea of a Weekend Look…

2.21.20

Yesterday’s!  I do legitimately have trouble with casual — that is anything involving denim and flats.  I wish I could do weekend style better but there’s just something about it… I’m not entirely comfortable in it.  Especially flats.  If I go somewhere in flats I’m constantly wishing I had on heels.  Well at least that shirt/sweater? is from Ann Taylor Loft’s lounge line… that’s sort of weekender, right?  Ohhhh well, hopefully I’ll get it someday!

Liquid Black

My leggings from HauteLook finally came in the mail on Friday so I decided to wear them yesterday! I went out and drank three martinis last night and didn’t get back until 3 am… not that 3 am is at all late for a not-recovered sorority partier! Before I left I actually switched out the belt for my wide black H&M and the shoes for 5-inch platform ankle boots but I didn’t photograph it — too dark by that time!

I had so much fun last night!  People my own age are so boring… sounds odd but it’s totally true.  My favorite party people are all 5+ years older than me!

Almost Business

Had something really weird just happen with this post… so here it is fixed/again I think (hope).

This is almost a suit?  Or…not at all. Well it’s the blazer of a suit at least.  Unfortunately it’s a bit too big in the chest but almost everything is!  This is the most office-y I have felt in a long time and it’s really not very office-y at all :)

I’ve missed my black and grey clothes!  They are the colors I like to wear best. I tried to roll up the cuffs of my blazer but they just kept sliding and sliding down so next time maybe I’ll try to hold them in place with safety pins.   I wish it had a cool lining like a lot of the blazers out right now!  Maybe I should think about lining the bottom of the sleeves with an interesting pattern!

It was such a nice day today, almost 50 degrees so I omitted my coat after the morning.  It’s still very icy and very slippery though.  I don’t know how other people get their pictures in the snow!  I’m always sliding around and settling into a pose at the last possible second!  If you have any tips please share them!  I was sliding like crazy and looked like an idiot today.

The skirt is my favorite purchase from a vacation to Ireland last August.  My friend and I decided to give ourselves a graduation present, and in the long-standing tradition of newly freed ex-students we decided that we just had to go abroad!  It was so cold there (60 degrees F to us at the time was freezing) but it was fabulous because it was so hot here!  It’s my first time wearing the skirt because it needs to be taken in a little.  I was waiting because I have to find a new tailor and I have already been through so many I didn’t like.  My old tailor retired which sent me into practically a depression.  She went to tailoring school in Rome.  She is so skilled.  I’m convinced that I will never find another tailor like her!
