I’ve completely forgotten how much I like the SoHo that is not overrun with tourists. The main streets are wrecked on the weekends for me, but go a little more out of the way and I begin to see the neighborhood I remember from my teenage years– small shops, good restaurants, everyone walking down the street lives here. And you can actually walk down the street without feeling like you’re playing a real life game of Frogger.
I meet my friend Devon for brunch at Lucky Strike, a favorite dinner and drinks spot. I’ve never been for brunch before, but I expect it to be good.
It is. There are no beverages aside from espresso and water consumed during this brunch (I was out until 4:30am, a typical New York weekend night and a perhaps a story one day), but I’m sure the mimosas are good.
I resist the temptation of Rag & Bone, but not J.Crew, Michael Kors, H&M, and AllSaints. I don’t make any purchases though. I see many $100 silk shirts I love, but they don’t really flatter me. Nothing — well nothing under $200 — really calls out to me. I do buy two shirts at Old Navy for the unbelievable price of $.97 each.
…and it’s raining. I go get Asian things at Pearl River, and then on the way to the train I spy C. Wonder (Tory Burch’s ex-husband’s brand). I’ve been meaning to visit.
C. Wonder perks me up immediately. After five seconds in the store I feel more awake. It’s like a party in this store. And no wonder everyone loves it: the price points are lower than J.Crew and Tory Burch, and I like a lot of pieces. Not a pastel in sight. I can see myself back here with a list. If you find yourself here, don’t miss the shoes.
It’s seriously raining, so off I go!

Sounds like you did some serious window shopping – the brunch looks sooo good! I’m waiting for bagels to get here at the office and that just made me 2000x more hungry!!

I did! I’m in the market for shoes and accessories, so Michael Kors was kind of a tough one. I wanted to try on everything!

Same, I LOVE Soho, but only when I’m not tripping over tourists! And you bought two shirts for $1 each?! That’s simply amazing! P.S. Love that sign in the first picture, haha
Also, C. Wonder sounds like a lovely store- I want to go!
Alex Elizabeth says
Hahaha yes, I didn’t even know the sign was there until later! We can go to SoHo on the weekend sometime :)

What a great weekend! I’ve been wanting to check out C Wonder…I can’t believe that it’s owned by Tory’s husband, I found out about it after attending her fashion show in the Fall. In Chicago we have a bowling alley called Lucky Strike :)
Alex Elizabeth says
I think you’d love C Wonder! It’s a really cool store. We have a bowling alley called Lucky Strike, too, but it’s supposed to be creepy.

that brunch is making me hungry, and sounds like an amazing deal at ON. I mean, those prices are cheaper than most things in the thrift store. HA.

Brunch was gluttonous, especially considering I had Shake Shack the night before. We’ll have to go there one day if the line isn’t out of control.
Seriously, I looked at the sales associate and was like what? Really? And she just looked at me like, honey there’s a line behind you. Please don’t pay with a card.
Lyddiegal says
haha I always put $2 purchases on my credit card…. most places don’t even ask for a signature if its under $20

waa! It’s been a REALLY LONG TIME since I’ve been in SOHO. Used to go visit my cousin and she’d take me there all the time. I really need to explore NYC more when I go there!

Yes, you do! Brooklyn, too. There are so many great areas… and so little time, unfortunately.
