The Windy Day

It was an extremely windy day in New York yesterday and not even my heavier weight skirt saved me.  I’ve actually been thinking about weighting the hems of some of my lighter skirts against the wind.  Some of them have been puffing up like parachutes!  I feel like I could float down stairs and things like that.

Also, confession: I switched these heels out for lower black sandals.

Why does my skirt look so short in these photos?  I swear it’s not really that short… I must have had it pulled really far up my waist or something.

Over the past week, my friend and I have been putting together a trip to the Hamptons in July… and FBFF this week just happens to be about vacations!  What a coincidence!  (Snort.  I definitely get an F for inability to transition subjects in writing.)  This might actually be the only vacation I’m taking this summer, kind of a shocking thought.  I’d actually like to go to Ireland again in August to escape the heat (or Iceland, I’ve wanted to go there for years), but I shouldn’t, and none of my friends will go anyway.

1. When it comes to packing for vacation what’s your mantra? It depends on what kind of holiday I’m taking, but in general I’d have to say do not go over the weight limit under any circumstances.  I believe the overweight baggage fee is now upwards of $90.

2. What are your must packs? Airplane friendly/travel sizes of my face wash, moisturizer, etc.  I hate to be without my usual products because my skin gets very dry, especially on flights.  I always make sure to pack a dress that could go to a more formal event.  You never know what might happen, or what restaurant might have an unexpectedly formal dress code.  It’s silly of me but I’m always so uncomfortable when underdressed.

3. What are you happy to leave behind? Hairdryer!  I don’t like to take it because it’s so heavy.  I’m also happy to leave behind the comforts of daily life (if that’s applicable to the vacation (the beach does not count)).  I’ve been a bit of an adventure traveler for my entire life and those are the trips I enjoy most.  I’d love to go west to see the national parks and I love to travel outside of the States.

4. Any packing secrets that help you get everything into one suitcase? I use the bundle wrapping method which I don’t think saves space but does significantly cut down on wrinkling for most pieces of clothing.  I also try not to take too many shoes, although as we all know this is sometimes unavoidable.

5. Beach reading… what are you taking with you to read in the sand? I really want to get a NOOK and jailbreak it into a full Android tablet, but I’m also terrified I’ll destroy it in the process.  I usually read on my Kindle for iPhone app now, books take up so much space in luggage and I have been known to go through several per week  at the beach.  I always take a few fashion magazines, The Economist, a new bestseller (last year I intended to take The Help on a vacation but stayed up the whole night reading it instead), and some classic literature.

Well at least you are going somewhere – i probably wont go anywhere, unless i suddenly get brave enough to travel alone. Such is my boring life. but i guess can just take all that potential vacay money and buy shoes.

i noticed those cork soffts in a window of a local store… i wonder if they will still be there by the time to bogo sale rolls around or if i should just get them…

and i love the color of that skirt, and it’s not THAT short.

Yes, you can always buy shoes!  Sofft sells out so quickly here, I’m not sure about by you though.  You can always look online if they do sell out.  And you can come visit me when I get a real job in New York (I hope).  I know loads of fabulous thrift and vintage stores!
