Serious Shopping

Worn on Saturday 18 Dec 2010

Last Saturday I went on a grand adventure!  I was doing some really serious shopping, so I dressed for comfort and ease.  In the winter if I know I’ll be really shopping my favorite thing to wear is a silk shirt (breathable and good at any temperature) and a light sweater for warmth.  And I always wear separates and a skirt if I’m going to a sample sale (Alexander Wang!!!) because I’ll be trying on clothes and a dress/pants aren’t that practical.

I even put the cross-body strap on my bag so I could carry it hands- (arms-?)free if I needed to.  It always flips over in the front when it’s too heavy, I guess I had too much stuff in it!

This shirt is actually an early Christmas present from my cousins, thank you, I love it!!!

This is the little scarf I always have on my bag.  It’s an ancient (and by ancient I mean circa 2006/2007) Coach scarf that I used to wear in my hair all the time.  It’s been living on one bag or another for about the past year though.

I also visited Le Labo in Nolita and got a freshly blended perfume!  I got a sample from Lucky Scent and adored it so I went to get a 1.7 oz from the New York store.  I would have loved to get photos of the inside of the store, very cool and old school apothecary style!  I leave you with a few photos of Vetiver 46:

A Little Bit of Snow

Worn on Tuesday 14 Dec 2010

Oops, you cannot see much of the detail of I’m wearing at all, I forgot to account for the different lighting because of the snow!  I was a little distracted because my beloved tripod finally completely died, it’s been half-broken for around five years.  A lot of my photos from the past week have been serious fails.  But I ordered a replacement and it just arrived yesterday, I haven’t even had a chance to use it yet.

I’m actually pleased with these photos, though!  They were taken with my newest lens, an early Christmas gift from my cousin.  It’s the entry level Canon 35mm but it is fantastic.  More useful than my 50mm and so much better than the kit telephoto!  Serious love.

Francesca’s Collections tee shirt open cardigan thing, J.Crew shirt (you can see the sequins a little bit at least), BDG/Urban Outfitters skirt, Assets by Sara Blakely tights, Arturo Chiang boots.

Last Week

Worn on 9 Dec 2010

It didn’t look too much like December last week although it was certainly cold and windy enough!  Sunny, windy days are actually my favorite although standing around outside without outwear is definitely not.  Luckily I just bought two wool sweaters!

This is one of my new J.Crew sweaters from the 30% off sale, I think it was $30 down from $88?  If there’s anything you’ve been eyeing from J.Crew they currently have extra 30% off sale (it’s the last day) and a ton of sweaters are priced in the $30-50 range!  I think I now own five winter weight sweaters, so I’ll actually be weather-appropriately attired this winter!  Now I guess I just need to work on long-sleeved shirts and better tights!

J.Crew sweater, shirt, belt; LOFT skirt; HUE tights; Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters) shoes.

P.S. I have no idea what happened to that fake deer’s head… it looks kind of creepy now.

Black Velvet

Worn on Sunday 28 Nov 2010

Thoughts:  I have had this blazer for six years.  Actually, maybe seven… I can’t remember well enough.  I retired it for a few years after the blazer craze so I don’t think it’s ever been photographed.  It’s really more of an outwear blazer, it’s bulky and heavy and the velvet is backed with something to give it structure, I think.

I have also had these boots for six years… I guess I was really feeling some throwback purchases last week?  My feet were really feeling the abuse of the holiday weekend so I decided on flats for the last day to save my poor toes!

Gap blazer, LOFT shirt, BDG (Urban Outfitters) skirt, hot/cold sensing tights from Penneys in Ireland (do these things even work?), J. Crew boots.

Double Leopard

Worn on 18 Nov 2010

Thoughts:  Is belting a scarf… totally over?  I’ve never actually belted a scarf, um… conventionally (remember this crazy idea?).  Not that only belting one side of a scarf is standard or anything.  And it’s not even a big fluffy scarf.  But I thought I’d try it since I’ve never really done a belted scarf although I frequently see it on the blogs.

I also decided to match my scarf and shoes although I don’t really know how that came about.  I especially like these leopard shoes with my brown HUE tights, I think that’s actually where the whole look started.  Then I added some purples and some more leopard, and there you have it!

You may have noticed those crazy little hearts to the left of my photos… they’re the Hypeed inspirations hearts (yes I’m trying out Hypeed, I never want to write any sites off before exploring them thoroughly).  You can just ignore them, I know most (if not all) of you are not on Hypeed.

J. Crew shirt, LOFT skirt, Lauren by Ralph Lauren scarf, Target belt, HUE tights, Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters) heels.

Laces Laces

Worn on Saturday 13 Nov 2010

Thoughts: Forgive me, friends, I’m so behind on almost all blogs.  And on posts.  And comments.  Again.  I’ve been asleep in a room with thermal drapes/reading actual books (made of paper!)/listening to Enya since Friday.  I’ve been afflicted with a migraine (the worst I’ve ever had) and treating with Excedrin, espresso, chocolate, and low light.  I believe I’m past the worst of it now though.

So, just a quick post with my new boots.  They’re actually almost flat (maybe a one inch heel) and I’m actually wearing them!

American Apparel dolman sleeve shirt, BDG (Urban Outfitters) skirt, scarf from the art museum in Charleston, LOFT belt, Assets tights, Jeffrey Campbell boots.

Long Chain and Leopard Shoes

11.6.10 – Saturday

I love this necklace and always feel as if I don’t wear it enough for how much I love it.  For some reason I feel like copper jewelry is a little bit harder to wear though, am I being ridiculous?  Perhaps a little, I need to experiment more with my jewelry!  My jewelry collection is extensively made up of light, delicate pieces and this is one of my only more substantial ones.  If you can even call this one substantial.

So I’ve definitely worn this before.  I guess this is just the fall version, and that one was spring.  Although I’d love to pair a jacket with it this season… maybe I could do a black velvet blazer sometime…

Buttons (Francesca’s Collections) shirt, Odille (Anthropologie) skirt, A. C. Moore leather ribbon thing as belt, HUE tights, Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters) shoes, ken and dana necklace.

Mismatched Black

10.15.10 – Friday

I went to Pottery Barn wearing this and I’m pretty sure they thought I was a crazy in my black leather and leopard shoes, mingling with the khaki set over pillows.  Pottery Barn is actually one of my favorite stores, I always want to buy everything and redecorate!  I think maybe I should overdye my skirt black again, it looks like it’s faded.  I’m always so sad when colors fade, I try to wash everything gently but I always have trouble with dark colors becoming not so dark after a few washes.

I haven’t worn these shoes since the spring!  I’ve missed them, but I definitely haven’t missed them hurting my feet!

LNA jacket, LOFT double wrap belt, American Apparel dolman sleeve shirt, Express circle skirt, HUE ultimate opaque tights (lies! you can totally see through them), Deena & Ozzy (Urban Outfitters) shoes.
