Cardigan Part Two: Night

10.19.10 – Tuesday – Maybe I Should Have Worn Stockings

I added a belt!  And I think I like this sweater better over a straighter skirt, it’s a cleaner line.  I’m wearing my new black Sofft pumps from zappos.  I wear a lot of comfort shoes because I have problem feet from ten years of ballet when I was younger.  I have extremely high arches and my right foot is significantly wider than my left at the toes.  I suspect broken toes that I never got checked (can’t do anything anyway) but it could just be some kind of anomaly.  Anyway, I highly recommend Sofft for problem feet, or feet that just hurt, especially in heels!  I wear heels a lot, so Sofft is one of my standard brands for classic, wearable shoes.  I would wear flats a lot more if not for Sofft!

A French bulldog is the perfect accessory for any outfit!  His name is Maxwell Edison, and he belongs to my cousin.  I think he leapt about two feet for the treat I had in my hand, and then he proceeded to walk out of the photo anyway!  Guess I’m just not much of a dog trainer, I never had much success with my dog either!

Cardigan Part One: Daytime

10.19.10 – Tuesday – I Don’t Know Why It Is So Warm

This is the first time I’ve ever worn this cardigan with something other than pants and the first time I’ve ever worn it open.  I think I would definitely like it better with a belt, so I changed for night later and added one.

My friend is convinced that the title of this post should be Springtime for Hitler (yeah she was in theatre) because it looks like spring and apparently my sweater is Nazi red.  Yeah, not really sure that I saw it either.  But speaking of Hitler and Nazis, I just started reading Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut and and of course I’m totally obsessed.  I predict that I’ll probably finish the book by tomorrow.  I’ve read a lot of Vonnegut and even heard him speak — probably the best commencement speech ever!

I’m messing with the blog layout again, and I may change the header.  I also enlarged the photos by 80 pixels and I’m finally using flickr for real!  Sorry about the mess though, it’s likely to continue all week.

Adventures With DSLR: Lighting Issues After Hours

…Or Same as Yesterday Only Later.

Thoughts:

1.  Hold.  Still.  Dark + crazy movement = …yeah.

2.  Wow, my shoes look really red in these photographs.

3.  Have those pants hemmed.

4.  The tacky palm trees look less tacky with this camera.  I think I actually like them.

5.  Sign up for photography classes.

Adventures with DSLR: Lighting Issues

… Or How Not to Use a DSLR.

Exhibit A:  I need direction.  Direct sunlight is hitting my face, making my foundation look like it’s about four shades lighter than my actual skin tone.  Oops.  It would be fantastic if someone would make a camera attachment that shouts tips at you while on the continuous self-timer setting.  Lesson learned: don’t stand with your face in the sun.  There’s only so much the camera can do, you need to improve your general  photography skill level.

Exhibit B:  So I am really good at blurring out the foreground and sharpening the background.  Unfortunately this means I have to go hide behind a plant or something to bring myself into focus.

Exhibit C:  Getting better?  Not bad, but depth of field is still kind of meh.

Of the Moment

9.1.10 ~ Wednesday ~ Fall is Falling

For the first day of September (okay, so it’s not really fall), I wanted to try out one of the big trends of the season.  Neutrals are at the top of my list — and probably about everyone else’s too — for fall fashion, although recently I’ve been buying black and hot pink (oops).  I don’t have a lot of neutral clothing, so this is experimental but I think it came out decently!  I’m not sure if the skirt is actually a neutral, it’s some kind of odd purple/grey color and I have no idea what to really call it.  If you’ve been to loft recently you’ve probably seen it, they used it for skirts, shorts, and a jacket.

Hmmm maybe next time I’ll swap out the bag for something else, brown or gold probably!

Also, has anyone ever been to an international film festival?  I have a feeling I’m going to be packing day and night looks for every single day…  I wonder what the temperature is in Toronto right now?

Summer Plaid

8.17.2010 ~ Tuesday

I must be thinking about fall a lot lately because I really, really wanted to wear this plaid shirt despite the 80+ degree weather!  But I’m still enjoying the remaining days of summer.  I’ve been doing a lot of repeats lately and enjoying what are going to be the last days for many of my sundresses!

Shirt is from JCPenney juniors (label not memorable), Charlotte Russe shorts, Sofft shoes, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag.

Faking Lace

8.10.2010 ~ Tuesday

If you hadn’t noticed, it’s black and white week here at alex elizabeth.  I just got up one day and decided to filter my photos in black and white… and maybe one in color!  I’m on some kind of fun with filters kick because I’ve been playing around with Poladriod too — that’s up next!

This is another resurrected look (from January 28, 2010 in fact) and my photos still generally look the same… well, maybe there’s been a slight improvement.  I’ve been shopping for a new camera for a while but I think I’m going to have to find a camera store and fiddle with them in person.  My father just got a new camera and I do not like it — too cumbersome — so since I want a giant DSLR it would probably be better that I go and actually look at some cameras not on a computer screen.  I’ll be missing my touch screen, I don’t think DSLRs have them.  I literally don’t know what to do with buttons on a camera any more, they just confuse me and I keep pushing the screen!  I guess people feel the same way about my camera though, it freaks people out because it doesn’t have buttons!

Old Friends

8.9.2010 ~ Monday

Remember this?  I decided to resurrect it :)  I haven’t been feeling very creative lately, maybe because I’ve already started looking ahead to Fall 2010 but can’t seem to find any clothing I actually want to buy.  Hugely depressing.  I’m going to Canada in a month though so maybe I’ll find some inspiration there!  Bad thing though is that it will already really be fall by that time in the north.  Guess I’ll be wearing a lot of sweaters?  I don’t know if I can bring myself to dig out winter clothing so soon!

Drape Day

8.6.2010 ~ Friday

Friends… I have something to tell you.  A tragedy occurred when I thought I could wear nude shoes and stand in the grass.  It’s too awful.  I lost my feet.  The grass was so long they just disappeared!  I’ve been missing them since Friday and it’s become really inconvenient.  Please tell me if you see them in there!

I wore this to work on a very hot day!  Luckily I took these in the morning (shocking, I know, as I manage to wake up early enough to do that once every six months or so) when the heat hadn’t set in yet.  I like the light although I think I still prefer the afternoon.  Maybe because I’m actually awake by then, no guarantees for my mental state before noon/first shot of espresso (whichever comes first)!

Mixed Color Florals

8.6.2010 ~ Friday

I haven’t photographed this dress in a long time, although I’ve worn it since I first got it in… April?  It’s very light and airy but unfortunately it always sticks to my legs!  And I don’t have a slip short enough to go under it without peeking out.

Friday I saw Counting Crows (I didn’t wear this, I basically wore this but with shorts) and sadly they were really disappointing.  Augustana (the opening act) was much better but the concert as a whole was just weird.  I’m glad I got to see Augustana though, they’re much more compelling live!
