Friends in the Snow, dated 29 Jan

One of the very first photos of the day, before I had a chance to stomp some of the snow down a bit.  If I’m not careful the snow will go down the top of my boots.

It was really snowing when these photos were taken.  My friend came over so I could play personal shopper.  We had an impromptu photo shoot because I was only half dressed when she got there and I still had to take photos.  Yeah, she thought I was pretty crazy for going out for photos in the snow.

This is Jen.  I’ve known her from the pre-school (age three).  I gave her a crash course in DSLR photography and she took that first photo of me in black and white.  We both prefer ourselves in black and white, and once I even toyed with the idea of making this a black and white only blog.

Later we went shopping (to the partially outdoor mall) and of course I forgot the umbrella.

Between Holidays

I think I’ve been suffering from holiday burnout and general I-have-nothing-wear-but-not-really syndrome, so I picked out one of my favorite shirts, a fluffy skirt, and a new sparkly belt.

Out of all the things I bought in 2010 (and there were way too many, believe me), I think this lowly American Apparel dolman sleeve shirt is the best purchase of the year.  I surprised myself with how much I loved it, how many times I wore it, and how much more versatile it is than I thought at the time of purchase.  None of my other AA stuff gets worn nearly as often.  I might have to order more colors, is that a serious fashion faux-pas?

Thoughts: Forgive me, friends, I’m so behind on almost all blogs.  And on posts.  And comments.  Again.  I’ve been asleep in a room with thermal drapes/reading actual books (made of paper!)/listening to Enya since Friday.  I’ve been afflicted with a migraine (the worst I’ve ever had) and treating with Excedrin, espresso, chocolate, and low light.  I believe I’m past the worst of it now though.  

So, just a quick post with my new boots.  They’re actually almost flat (maybe a one inch heel) and I’m actually wearing them!

Mismatched Black

I went to Pottery Barn wearing this and I’m pretty sure they thought I was a crazy in my black leather and leopard shoes, mingling with the khaki set over pillows.  Pottery Barn is actually one of my favorite stores, I always want to buy everything and redecorate!  I think maybe I should overdye my skirt black again, it looks like it’s faded.  I’m always so sad when colors fade, I try to wash everything gently but I always have trouble with dark colors becoming not so dark after a few washes.  

I haven’t worn these shoes since the spring!  I’ve missed them, but I definitely haven’t missed them hurting my feet!

Island Time…

I don’t remember when I took these… maybe it was last Wednesday?  I try to keep things casual at the beach for the most part, but I don’t enjoy lounging around in casual clothes.  Juicy velour is about as lounge-y as I ever get and that’s usual only late after yoga.  There were some serious storms at the beach!  The waters around the area are known as the graveyard of the Atlantic because of the amount of shipwrecks caused by severe storms.  And I had to get my usual photo of the Jolly Roger, so I give you pirates of the graveyard of the Atlantic!

Night-Blooming Floral

These photos were actually taken at 8 pm!  I wanted to experiment with photography at night again but it wasn’t dark enough.  Maybe if I wait until nine?  

I’ve been feeling a lot like pumps lately, I have no idea why.  Especially as the temperature keeps rising.  You’d think I’d be in sandals… but no, I’d rather wear pumps!  This skirt is reaaaaaally puffy!  That’s okay, as long as I keep the silhouette nipped at the waist.  I should have probably gotten one size smaller though, this skirt is a size larger than my other J. Crew skirt of the same design.  The pearl bracelet is actually a necklace I got at Uniqlo when I was studying abroad in Japan.  It turned out to be a really good buy because the faux pearls are good quality (I’m pretty sure they’re glass) and the unusual color goes well with a lot of different looks.

The What I Wore Sweet and Rough Challenge

So last night as I was trying desperately to post this… tumblr would not only not post — it kept deleting any modifications to the draft.  Poo.  

I thought I gained a bit of a tan in Atlantic City (unintentionally, as everyone in real life knows I use Mystic) but these photos seem to prove otherwise.  Although it’s possible that the extreme clouds are responsible for it, and it was raining as I took these photos.  That’s why my hair is so big!  It’s not full of secrets, I swear!  I’m having it cut today, thankfully.  I don’t even know what I’m doing with it, just that it has to become shorter.  And I’m considering bangs again because I think something about the lines of my face is too harsh without them.  Although apparently I love the hair in Shanghai right now, and there are no bangs with those two cuts.  I’m also a fan of Lucy Liu’s hair.  She doesn’t have bangs either.  Maybe I’ll just put myself at the mercy of my stylist?
