Standing on Pine Needles at the Golden Hour

Dear Dotty,

The days are definitely getting longer now, but I’d forgotten how quickly the sun disappears and lost the golden hour after only a few photos. That’s okay though, because soon photos will be possible as late as dinner time!

I wore something very similar to this outfit when Lydia came to visit for the first time (I can’t even look at those photos, bare legs– sob). I’m sort of in the middle of the fashion blogger version of the existential crisis (what is the purpose of red tights? do I even like taking photos any more or is it just habit?), so naturally I put on something that I thought might alleviate said crisis. Leather, of course, black, and apparently grey semi-opaque Swiss dot tights.

I feel most like myself when I wear black leather and crazy Helmut Lang coats, but I’d really like to add some pieces in bright solid colors for spring. I don’t know what I was doing last spring, but… I was feeling uninspired.

I’m wearing my Helmut Lang coat (out of stock, but there were tons floating around at the sample sale so there must be some around), Francesca’s Collections wrap/cardigan with a J.Crew shell underneath, Gap leather skirt (Tokyo Joe – East Village), Merona/Target Swiss dot tights, and MIA booties (DSW).

I definitely have those days–like, what is even the point of clothing? Why is this so absurd? But then I put things together and get excited again and remember what the point is. :) I love how badass you look in your coat and sunglasses.

The light in that first photo is really amazing. The black & grey looks so ‘you’. You look gorgeous in these photos. I’m feeling you on the lack on inspiration lately I think it might be time to throw a wrench into the spokes & try something ‘new’.

Your coat is absolutely gorgeous!  At first I was guessing Mackage because it does have similar details.  I know how you feel, when I see those CA TX FL bloggers outdoors with no sleeves…i am just a teeny tiny itty bitty jealous…just a smidge….ahhhhhh!

Can we talk about the lack of inspiration going on here? I feel the same way. I think it may just be the weather. and I just hate not having enough natural light when I actually have time to take photos :(  pooooo. But hey, you look great in this outfit. Those tights are to die for.

I don’t know what it is. Blah. The weather’s not even bad here hahahaa. I just feel like I’ve exhausted every possible combination of pieces to wear and you are going to get tired and bored of me soon.

Aww, I’m sorry that you’re feeling uninspired lately.  It’s hard when the days are gloomy and/or the day is over before 5pm.  Luckily the days are getting warmer and the sun even came out to play today!  Loving your polka dot tights :)

I love the hem on the new coat! I have one that’s shorter in the front and slightly  longer in the back, so seeing yours is very refreshing. Oh, and the tights are to-die-for!

I first saw these tights on Kelsey/Charming Pumpkin and scoured Targets for them. It’s so important to have an interesting coat for winter, isn’t it? Because hardly anyone ever sees the outfit underneath!

It’s not just you… I blame the season, the weather, the light… all of it… because I’ve been feeling uninspired and unwanting to take photos. I have, in fact, been taking fewer outfit photos.

The new coat is GORGEOUS, by the way.

Thanks! I like it a lot :) Looks best unzipped and without a scarf, so I get a little cold in 30 degree weather. No worse than heels though.

I’ve been taking photos, but my 50mm has been driving me up with wall with photos that have no focus at all. I wonder if I just got a bad one? I think that’s half the problem lately and I may return to my 35 for a while.

I feel like ever since i got the new camera I’ve been having more and more problems getting crisp photos…. I’m quite frustrated!
It doesn’t help that there are now three options for auto focus – One Shot, AIFocus and AIServo.
Servo is supposed to track a moving subject and does not work with the remote. at all. and it took me a really, long time to realize this, in the freezing cold.

One Shot is the best one, I don’t think AIFocus is that useful… unless you’re going to start running in the middle of photos after standing still for a while. Actually maybe for jump photos that might work, although I’m not sure how it performs with the remote. Yeah don’t use AIServo hahahahaha. Unless you’re moving.
