FBFF: Blogger Wearing Habits

The Fashion/Beauty Friend Friday bloggers are talking about frequency of wearing clothing items, and this week it’s back to our traditional questions. Jump to ModlyChic to read our thoughts on budgeting versus impulse buying, one-time wears, and whether or not seeing remixed items holds your interest.

1. Are you a one-time wearer?
Definitely not. Even my cocktail dresses get occasional wear for absolutely no reason other than I feel like wearing them. If I spend for a dress I’ll regret not wearing it much more than not keeping it pristine.

2. Do you feel the need to purchase something new for an evening out or a special event?
I used to purchase new things frequently when I was younger and didn’t have many things for evening. Now I have enough things to cover formal dinners to black tie weddings, so I can’t see myself actually needing to purchase anything. I love the dresses I have, and I love to wear them. However, I won’t feel bad if I do have to purchase something new. Honestly, I’m twenty four, and my body is just not the same as it was when I was eighteen or twenty, or even twenty two. Not everything still works.

3. Re-mixing is something a lot of bloggers are proud of being able to accomplish – are you a re-mixing pro or do you shy away from posting items frequently? Why?
Some items get a lot of remix time, like my Francesca’s Collections Cardigan. It gets worn constantly, as do my Alexander Wang dresses. I wouldn’t say I’m proud of it– it’s just practicality. I tend to buy fewer, higher priced pieces and have less to choose from than a lot of other bloggers.

I do admit that I have pieces are not remixed frequently. Sometimes it’s because they’re too seasonal, or too distinctive… or they have to be dry cleaned. I wear things that need to be dry cleaned far less often than my other things. The chemical smell of dry cleaned clothing really bothers me.

4. Do you have a clothing budget or are you an impulse buyer?
I try to have a clothing budget, but it doesn’t always work out. I imagine it’s the same way for a lot of people. Luckily, I am not an impulse buyer. Anything priced higher than $20 is usually debated for at least a week. I’ve stewed over handbag and coat purchases for more than six months before actually making a purchase, and I even waited a week before buying my Merona ostrich bag (Target, $29.99).

5. Do you find yourself bored when reading a blog in which clothing items are often remixed and appear frequently?
No, never. Although I always feel like I’m boring everyone when I wear pieces frequently. I do remix pieces a lot more frequently than many of the other style blogs on the web. Two of the best remixers (in my opinion, and also two of my favorite blogs to read) are Fashion Toast and The Clothes Horse. I know, totally different blogs, right? But Fashion Toast is one of the first style blogs I ever followed (and I still love it), and The Clothes Horse is such an amazing remixer that I’m usually like what? no way, that’s the dress from ________, too?

I always start worrying that I’m boring everyone when I wear the same pieces over and over again. :)

I’ve also started to trying recently to stop purchasing fast fashion and start investing in quality items. :) Even if it means having less to choose from, it seems like a better idea in the long run!

I try so hard not to buy fast fashion! Lately I’ve been purchasing fewer and fewer things, so it’s starting to work for me. Of course, I just bought trendy shirts at Old Navy, but they were $1.94 total. Can’t complain.

this was such a fun Q and A to read…I agree..I am NEVER bored when other bloggers remix…but when I scroll through my blog from time to time..I am like CARLY, why are you wearing the same stella and dot necklace in the last 4 outfit posts…but thats reality, right? And I always pride myself on authenticity…so if I like it, I wear it a lot…hence it is on the blog a lot…but I always think people must be bored seeing it! if it makes you feel better I always adore seeing your alexander wang dresses:) C

Apparently we’re all just worrying over nothing because so many people feel the same way about seeing other bloggers remix… but feeling anxious about doing it ourselves. I’ve basically worn the same earrings all week. In fact… maybe all month. Oh well, when you love pieces you love pieces :)

if i haven’t said this before, i’ll make sure to say it in response to this post: i heart how you remix your alexander wang dresses!  and i’m with you on wondering about the size of some blogger’s closets…it must be ridiculous!

I always try to come up with new ways to wear the Alex Wang pieces because I do like to wear them a lot. I’m working on color with them, but it seems a mess every time I try. Maybe warmer weather will inspire me.

One blogger I follow took inventory of her wardrobe a long time ago. 60+ dresses. That’s like… a lot of dresses.

I cannot begin to tell you how inspiring this post was for me. Seriously. I went out for my Birthday on Friday and had nothing new to wear to wore a dress I had posted as a casual outfit on my blog a few weeks earlier. I kept thinking ‘they are going to be bored of seeing this outfit again’ but I changed the colours I wore with it and the bag and tried to make it look different. I am glad that other people re-use clothes on their blogs and wear the same clothes out. It is unrealistic for me to be posting something new every few days.

Amazing post – I am have put your blog on my ‘Daily Reads’ so I can follow you because I can’t get into my bloglovin account :P Sorry for the loooong comment!

I think all bloggers wear clothing multiple times… except the ones that post with every item c/o. Definitely never worry about wearing something again– that’s reality. I always try to take inspiration from bloggers I think are truly stellar remixers, and it also helps to have a closet full of pieces you love. You’ll always want to wear them!

I am impressed at your ability to debate a purchase for so long. I never mull things over. I’ll buy or not. I’ll try it on again at home and if it does not work I’ll return. Done deal. Maybe I need to teach myself to think things over more. – Katy

Great point – my body is definitely not the same that it was in high school (even though I’ve haven’t grown taller :p) I need to get my formal wardrobe in better shape. I think I’m in the process of weeding out the “fast fashions” I’ve had for years and replacing them with more quality/staple pieces. It’s a process!

Love all of those dresses in the first set- so fancy! I don’t think I’ve seen any of those in person.  Yeah, I’m definitely not a one-time wearer either, but I think I could definitely be better at remixing!  Your outfit posts are never boring to me- if you’re showing a piece frequently, it means you really love it, which I think is great :)

That’s because they’re firmly in the summer dress camp. And you can basically see straight through the yellow dress, too, so I don’t wear that one a lot. But the snake maxi will come out to play soon.
