The Cove and the Handkerchief Hem Lace Dress

Dear Mia,

It’s been a while since I’ve photographed this dress, which honestly… seems to photograph terribly. I’m not sure what it is– could be the lighting, could be the lace is just too busy to show up well. I don’t know. Every so often, something I wear just does not look the same on camera as in the mirror. Even the color didn’t come out quite true and had to be corrected. Do you ever have moments when you photograph an outfit and then see photos and think …what? I think this is another case of “the photos you take and the photos you think you take” difficulty that often plagues bloggers.

Free People Handkerchief Hem Lace Dress (still available in black) | Forever 21 belt | Aquatalia by Marvin K. boots | Hanes Seasonless Control Top Tights (c/o) | ZARA Quilted Tote (not current) | AMY O. Jewelry ROCKER Sammy Rex Necklace

Also, I don’t know about you, but I really like our poses.

If nothing else, they’re a source of amusement. Maybe we should start a dramatic outfit of the day photo club.

What, you don’t think it’ll catch on?

Alex

hey, when did your hair get so long?

I definitely have things that never photograph right, or things that when i post everyone who comments calls it a different color than what it is, or looks like to me and I’m wondering what the heck is wrong with my screen, haha.

I dunno, dude, I think that dress looks RAD on you in pictures so it must be eye-searingly gorgeous in real life–I’m not sure I could handle it. I know how it is, though, I have a bunch (or what feels like a bunch) of garments or outfit combinations that just don’t photograph as well as they should! Maybe it’s just the limitation of two dimensions.

Also, I would 100% join said club, even if it’s only a club of two. Or one. I’m in many clubs of one, and it makes voting on things easy! (I don’t think I’m making any sense today, I’ll try to do better next time.)

I do really like this dress, but in photos it just never looks as good as I think it does in the mirror.

Oh well. Too bad 3D photography is so expensive!

You’re totally right. Clubs of one (or even two) are totally the way to go if you want to get your way!
