With the start of February comes the spring retail calendar (six more weeks until spring, if the groundhog is to be believed) and the first fall collections of the year at NYFW. I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the fall season. I love fall fashion. It always seems more creative to me. It’s also nice to have something to look forward to in February, which is typically New York’s worst month of the year when it comes to the weather. In contrast to everything else I’ve seen for spring, Marc Jacobs created a bold, dark collection. Typically we tend to see darker reds, greens and blues for fall, though after a week filled with pastels and nudes I found the color refreshing. But don’t fret if you’re on board with Spring 2014 trends: volume, exposed midriffs, fringe and print had a strong showing in this collection.

Neutrals appear to be a leading trend for S/S 2014, whether black and white or the softer beige and cream that’s being shown. Skin is in– cutouts and crop tops continue to be popular and leather is gaining momentum as well.

Expect shimmery fabrics and sheer chiffon to have a major moment. Son Jung Wan used a number of fabrics with shimmer or high sheen, and a few looks also featured gold or rose gold sequins. Additionally, pants and jumpsuits are in, especially for cocktail and eveningwear. …
