It’s been a while since I’ve photographed this dress, which honestly… seems to photograph terribly. I’m not sure what it is– could be the lighting, could be the lace is just too busy to show up well. I don’t know. Every so often, something I wear just does not look the same on camera as in the mirror. Even the color didn’t come out quite true and had to be corrected. Do you ever have moments when you photograph an outfit and then see photos and think …what? I think this is another case of “the photos you take and the photos you think you take” difficulty that often plagues bloggers….

Christmas Eve in Pink
I hope you had a good holiday! Sorry I haven’t been around very much for the past month, I think I’ve had visitors or traveled every single week since Thanksgiving. The end of the year seemed unusually disorganized for me. I even forgot that I actually did take photos on Christmas Eve. I decided on my newish (from October in anticipation of the remainder of fall, but then Sandy happened and I didn’t have it for weeks and weeks) pink dress from Madewell. It’s a great color and the silk is nice, but the skirt is plagued by static electricity. Hopefully that won’t happen in the summer.

Black and White Pattern Mixing
Sometimes I stop for photos even when it rains. If it’s raining, the park is generally empty and the few people there don’t care about the weird person with the camera (usually they’re fellow photogs with SLRs). I think the rain also gives a nice quality to photos. It makes them a little soft and turns all surfaces slightly reflective. Photos take on a different quality than those I snap on sunny days. …
When Bloggers go to Blogger Events in Alexander Wang
On Friday I was lucky enough to get together with fashion bloggers Katy, Nnenna, and Jamillah! We went out to two fun fashion week events. You might remember that we met in person for the first time last September and were together for the first Bloggers Night Out. For F/W 2012 we added the Lulu*s Style Studio event to our plans. We picked up loads of fun free products before heading uptown to Bloggers Night Out, which had an unbelievable turnout. It was so packed! I’m so glad we didn’t check our coats. Definitely the longest line of the night.
I originally planned on wearing my 4.5 inch heels, but my knee injury started feeling weird in the middle of the day so I ended up in my often-photographed MIA ankle boots again. It started snowing while we were out so the boots ended up being an excellent choice (they have little treads on the bottom). I’m wearing my Alexander Wang Dress (F/W 2011, sold out at Net-a-Porter where I got it during the post-holiday sale), Forever 21 belt (old favorite), Assets by Sara Blakely tights, and MIA ankle boots.
This is also my submission for Bloggers Do It Better: Red! I don’t often wear red clothing, but red lipstick is definitely becoming my go-to lip color. In the past few months it’s been edging out the pink I used to favor. I use Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Lip in Red 8C. It’s by far the best red I’ve ever used and my favorite.

The Story of the Free Bag
Today I’m going to tell you how I came to get this bag– for free. I finally accepted that I needed a new black bag because my poor old Longchamp is so sad and peeling apart. Enter a late night run to Kohl’s and a thorough raiding of the handbag section for black bags that could possibly fit a computer. This Dana Buchman tote was just right. It’s faux leather — which I don’t love because I always seem to wreck it — but I’m a fan of the clean lines and unobtrusive branding.
Originally this bag $109, but it was on sale for 50% off… and my stepmother had some Kohl’s Cash that expired while we were away for the holidays. We asked about using anyway. Free shopping! the cashier told us with a smile. Can’t beat the price.

A Halfway Decent Twirl Photo for Once

Dear Silvergirl,
Have you worn your pink skirt yet? It twirls so well! However, the stripes of my shirt are definitely visible through it in some photos (eek!), so beware of patterns.
I caught the light at such a beautiful time. The sunsets have been really nice lately, so I’ve taken to walking around 5 or so most days. Well, at least as long as the weather permits.

Python Print and Faux Shearling Again
So I’m totally running out of ways to wear this dress… any suggestions? I meant to wear it with red tights this time around but forgot to pack them.
Things have been rather quiet lately because I’ve been mildly sick. There are flowers still blooming in North Carolina and my allergies have been so bad since making the trip south. Good news, however, I think I’m beginning to feel better.
