Casual Holiday Dressing with AMY O.

It’s a commonly held myth that I never wear pants. I do. I swear. Let it be documented that I do wear pants (even if they’re always skinny jeans).

I tend to dress for dinner during the holidays, though no one else in my family does. However, there usually is an occasional very casual dinner or post-dinner drinks with good friends and neighbors, and I’d be more likely to dress up some denim for that. I always wear a fancier top, heels, and some big jewelry. I like this necklace from AMY O. because it’s glittery yet understated.

Black and Nude in the Spring

Dear Dotty,

If only there wasn’t a paved road back there… then I could pretend that this was an actual forest. These are the first outfit photos I took with the Sony Alpha Nex-5N. Sometimes it doesn’t like focusing directly on me, but I’m determined to get bokeh out of the lens. I know it can be done, even if it’s not as nice as the stuff my Canon can produce.

Twenty-Five

Dear Kelsey,

So I organized a small blogger meetup for my birthday this year. Nnenna was there, and Hope, and Kristine (who has a blog but doesn’t use it– we need to encourage her), and some other non-blogger friends as well. I’ve also decided that from now on my birthday is May 5th. No one tell, okay? Everyone is more fun on the 5th than the 6th, and let’s face it– I’ve always been a little suspicious of my Korean birth certificate. My Korean passport photo is pretty hilarious, too.

Geometric Neutrals

Dear Christine,

On Friday night my friends and I went to Lucky Strike for an early birthday celebration. We ate a lot of steak and fries (they’re so good at Lucky Strike) and had some fun with my film camera, as you saw. I wore a new matty m dress from Darling in the West Village. It’s a fantastic dress shop and the sales are good, too. This dress was 60% off and 100% silk– had to get it. It’s very lightweight so I can see it taking me through summer, then hopefully fall and winter with layers and some good tights.

The 97¢ Cobalt Shirt

It’s taken me a very long time, but I finally got something cobalt! I picked this shirt up at an amazing Old Navy sale for 97¢ (and I couldn’t resist one in pink, too). Now that I have it, I’m wishing for a breezy maxi dress in this color. I think it would transition beautifully through the seasons. I just have to find one! …

And then, the Sun

Dear Kelsey,

Happy Easter (if you observe). It was beautiful all day, but suddenly became cloudy during the early evening. I waited and waited… and there was a fantastic sunset! Windy, though. It’s been so terribly windy that I haven’t been wearing skirts. The secret to wearing a maxi dress on a windy day is to wear a slip under it. Helps a lot, even if it’s only knee length.

In other news, I have a mildly hilarious story– about death and Holy Week. My grandfather had been very ill this past week and died on Saturday morning. That’s obviously not the funny part. The funny part is that the priest told my family (in all seriousness) it was such a wonderful weekend to die. Well as far as weekends go, for those of the Roman Catholic Church this is definitely the best possible one to die during. Makes it no less amusing to me. Of course, I can be wildly improper so you may not find it as humorous as I did. Stress may be getting to me. …
