FNO Photo Diary

Outside Saks, destination #2 of the night. I briefly stopped at Henri Bendel, which was far too crowded. Nothing too special about this outfit, just one of my standard monochrome creations. I love this skirt and probably wear it too much. One day it’s just going to completely fall apart. …

Bloggers in Front of Brownstones

Dear Laura,

The majority of these houses are actually brick row homes, but Bloggers in Front of Brick Row Homes doesn’t sound quite as good as Bloggers in Front of Brownstones. Nnenna and Hope already wrote about our night of soirées, but I have a few additional photos from our evening. I looked everywhere for a photo of Hope’s pretty scarf, then I realized I took all those photos with her camera. You’ll just have to visit A Flattering Tale to see. …

The Building Without a Roof

Dear Christine,

I’m not sure what this building is called, but it’s empty and parts of it are usually blocked off. A lot of photoshoots happen inside anyway. I’d love to stand in one of those windows and get a photo, or at least center myself under one of the arches (which I completely failed to do in any of my photos). I kept losing track of where I was standing. The area around here is actually very busy, people walking or biking back and forth constantly. I’m sure all of them were wondering what the freak in the leopard dress was doing. …

Pink and Pink

Dear Silvergirl,

Lately all I think I say how hot it is… but it is. Too hot for photos, really. There’s usually a breeze in Brooklyn, but it doesn’t help much when all you can feel is hot air. I’m wearing the coolest things I can, which include flowy shirts, a few pieces of jewelry, and sensible shoes. Are flatforms still popular this summer? I have no idea. I’m going to go with yes because Eva Chen is still wearing hers.

On Fridays We Wear Black

Dear Caitlin,

So apparently bloggers get together and wear black to celebrate blogiversaries. Or maybe that’s only blogiversaries in New York? In any case, on Friday evening some members of the Blogger Social Club (Hope, Jamillah, Kim, Kristine (who has a blog but does not update it), Luz, Nnenna, and me) got together to celebrate Nnenna’s Two-Year Blogiversary for Star-Crossed Smile.

If you’d like to join our social club, email, tweet, leave a comment, etc. so I can let you know when we meet.

Leopard Dress and a Bucket List Cross Off

Dear Katha,

I don’t have an official New York bucket list– although I think I should definitely make one so I don’t forget anything. I’ve been wanting to go to Penelope for the longest time, and I finally did! Penelope doesn’t take reservations so it can be practically impossible to get in. Early dinner was a good time to go. I had the fish and chips, which were totally amazing. The brunch menu looks excellent, too, but I’ve heard the wait can be more than an hour. Way too long for me.

I love exploring new places– do you have any recommendations for things to do in New York?

Sun Showers | Alexander Wang & Cole Haan

Dear Katha,

I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not, but the weather’s doing something crazy in these photos. They’re actually from before Memorial Day when it was constantly storming and I thought mid-Atlantic was about to become the tropics. This Alexander Wang dress is great during humid and rainy weather. The jersey breathes well and tends to dry quickly unless totally and completely soaked. And when it rains, black is always a better choice than white! …

Before and After Madewell

Dear Lydia,

If you’ve seen my Instagram or Twitter lately, you know that Nnenna and I attended one of the Madewell Style Sessions last week. We planned on a little primping at the Refinery29 Beauty on Wheels event, but when we got there they were no longer accepting people for makeovers. We headed to MAC instead, where we tried some fabulous lip colors, then on to Madewell. Madewell was fun (sweet treats, drinks, and discounts!), and we tried on a lot of things but neither of us bought anything. I’d love to buy shorts for summer, but Madewell and J.Crew bottoms tend to be cut too curvy for me. And no tailor I know will agree to take denim in through the hip.

Brooklyn in the Morning

Dear Silvergirl,

Isn’t DUMBO great in the morning? It’s very quiet and barely feels like New York. I love taking photos in the park when it’s early. Except for the occasional jogger or dog walker, hardly anyone is around. It’s easier to get photos when people aren’t wandering into your frame.
