Gasparilla Pirate Festival is an annual event in which pirates invade Tampa and then parade through the city. Most pirates ride on elaborate floats and throw beads to the spectators that yell the loudest. Tons of people dress up like pirates for the festival, which is pretty much the equivalent of a giant street party. I wish there was a pirate festival in New York!

Looks like a ton of fun! There is the mermaid parade in Coney Island but definitely think we need more parties hehe

That looks like soooooo much fun. Omg. Dare I say it maybe looks even better than mardi gras? Seeing images like that reminding me of the sun and tropics makes me long so much for more spring to get here! :)

This looks like so much fun! Did you plan to visit when this was going on, or was it a pleasant surprise?
Alexandra Shook says
It was a pleasant surprise! I wish I had known so I could have brought my pirate clothes, though. Because, you know, I just have those. In my closet. Mostly mixed in with my regular clothes.
