Everyone is All Right

You might know that I fled the city Saturday after being evacuated. As far as I know, everyone is all right. However, my building is closed due to severe damage and I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to New York. Maybe next week? I think I’m stuck for a little bit. I hope everyone is dry, safe, and warm. Happy Halloween! It’s officially now on Saturday here.

Blurry hi from Toronto!

So far I have:

–  gone to the midnight madness premiere of Bunraku and saw some celebrities (including Josh Hartnett, who is really attractive in person and a total hipster, who knew?)
–  overseen the purchase of Stuart Weitzman boots (my cousin)
–  been shopping in Bloor/Yorkville (!!!) when I was at Cole Haan apparently Julia Roberts was leaving the hotel next door
–  visited an Edwardian era castle with secret passages!  (and unfortunately no air conditioning)
–  seen Jucy, an independent Australian film about a womance, highly recommend!
–  been really, majorly creeped out by Black Swan (visually stunning but effing scary psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis)
–  almost literally ran into Scott Speedman after the premiere of Good Neighbors (he was in the pile of celebrities going really slow!!  I have to leave for Niagara Falls at 8am!)
–  learned that celebrity sightings can be entertaining, although I mostly don’t care and I’m reasonably certain I’ll never want to swarm the red carpet anywhere — those girls scream loud for young male actors!

I’m thinking about naming my camera Fred.  Last Wednesday I just sort of looked at it and thought “Fred”.  I don’t know why.  I wasn’t even thinking about naming it.  And then I thought it would be too weird to name the camera, but I thought about it more and people name all sorts of inanimate objects.  Like cars.  Naming a camera isn’t that odd.

Then I thought that maybe I should name it Corinne, in honor of Corinne Day.  But it just isn’t a Corinne.

So I guess the real question… is Fred a girl or a boy?  Is it too ironic to have a camera and name her Fred?

Maybe it could be short for Winifred?

Well, it could have been worse.

I only screwed up some of the settings and cut off my feet.

This is the very first shot taken with my DSLR yesterday in RAW, which has amazing quality but if I shoot in that all the time my hard drive will be overloaded in about a week.  Overall I think it went well, aside from the fact that I cut my feet off, my aperture settings were totally wrong, and an epic focusing fail (really bad bloopers up later).

I have two more looks queued up from when I was still using my point-and-shoot (I really, really appreciate how good that tiny camera is now after getting the DSLR) and then it’s going to be time for adventures with the new camera!

ModCloth for the win.

Goldfish Heaven Bath Plug-Mod Retro Indie Clothing & Vintage Clothes

This is one goldfish who refuses to fully pass on to the other side. It wants to stick around and help you enjoy bath time! Fitting on any size bath drain, this little fish will stop up your tub so you can run the water, maybe add some aroma therapy salts, and relax! His bright orange fins and tail will be easy to find in the fluffy bubbles of your bath, so you won’t be fishing for the plug when the water goes cold. This fun friend isn’t playing “koi,” so why should you? Cast out your line, and bring one home today!
