Last of Summer Chambray

Wearing an eShakti vintage inspired chambray dress with Felix Rey belt and gold open toe shoes

Dear Chrissy,

This is the first and last time this season you’ll be seeing this chambray dress. I ordered it from eShakti in the spring. It’s served me well through early fall, but I personally feel that this particular chambray is too lightweight for winter. I don’t think it would be a great choice to wear with tights (the dress would stick to them) although it would work with a blazer and a fun scarf in a warmer climate.

How to Dress for a Cool Summer

IMG_4680
Dear Katha,

I don’t know about you, but we’ve had a number of cool summer days during the past month. Early mornings and late evenings in particular seem to call for a scarf or jacket. I love to wear my breezy summer pieces, so I’ve been getting a creative with a few ways to add warmth without looking like I’m ready for fall!

Spring Leopard

IMG_2807

Dear Nnenna,

I’m glad it’s finally (sort of)  getting a little bit (okay not really) springy here in New York. All I know is that I’ll be happy if it stops raining and breaks 50 degrees for more than three days straight. I’ve discovered that I definitely need to get some rain boots as waterproofing my usual boots isn’t cutting it anymore– they’re leaking around the seams and my toes are always wet. Of course, I also want to find semi-stylish ones, extra points if they can pass for regular streetwear. Let me know if you come across any?…

What to Wear to Dinner After a Snowstorm + altin place Koa Ring Review

Leifsdottir dress and Vivienne Vivienne Tam faux fur vest | Outfit for dinner on a snowy day | Delayed Missives lifestyle blog

Dear Christi,

The snow is clearing up, but there are a lot of streets and patches where ice and snowpiles are lingering.  I can’t hole up all winter, so occasionally I brave the outdoors for a good meal. In this case it was Thai. Spicy noodles and soup were perfect on a cold day.

It can be difficult to stay stylish with all the inclement weather. I favor flat boots when it snows- no sense slipping in heels. I also tend to favor sleeveless or short sleeved things, even in the winter. Although I do really like long-sleeved dresses. I don’t know. I’m just a bunch of contradictions.

Leopard Dress + Bow Belt

Leopard Joe Fresh dress and J.Crew lady day coat | Delayed Missives fashion blog by Alexandra Shook

Dear Dotty,

Fashion week is in full swing here in New York, as is the snow and slush. I’ve seen people walking around in stilettos, but I prefer my trusty La Canadienne snow boots. They’re very stable on the icy streets and I can even walk through a snowpile without a problem.

Dreamy Sunset Forest | Outfits

    IMG_4641

Dear Kimberlee,

There’s something special about photos captured just as the sun is disappearing, isn’t there?. The light is always glowing and soft, so no wonder it’s one of my favorite times of the day to shoot. My other favorite time is the blue hour, and I also like days that are perfectly overcast. Those are difficult to come by– it can’t be raining, but it can’t be too clear either.

Leopard + Red

Joe Fresh leopard print dress | Delayed Missives lifestyle blog

Dear Shanondoah,

It’s the leopard dress again! This dress doesn’t have much shape, so I think it can be a little bit difficult to style on its own. Last time I wore it with a black velvet blazer, and here I am wearing it with red again. What do you think I should style it with next? Maybe brown or some light neutrals?

Fancy Hems for the Holidays

vintage betsey johnson dress holiday outfits

Dear Kaitlyn,

I hope you had a great end to 2013! Christmas Eve dinner tends to be the more formal night for my family, and it’s kind of a tradition for me to wear something black and a pile of jewelry. This Betsey Johnson dress is an old favorite of mine that transitions really well throughout all of the seasons. It came with a small black slip, but I swapped it out for one I recently got from Ruche. This slip is fancier and has tiered chiffon ruffles at the bottom. It also has the added benefit of adding a little bit of length to this dress, which I have always felt was on the edge of  too short.

Festive Dress for the Holidays | Outfits

black velvet gap blazer, joe fresh leopard print dress and amy o jewelry art deco inspired pendant in the snow

Dear Brenna,

Happy holidays! You probably already have some great outfits lined up for the next week or so. But in case you don’t have every single look planned, I highly recommend throwing in something that’s both bold and fun. For me, that’s usually leopard print and red lipstick. I usually wear MAC Russian Red but decided on Revlon Black Cherry. The deep berry color is a little bit more trendy this season.
