GEORGINE Fall 2016

Red Parka | GEORGINE Fall 2016

The GEORGINE Fall 2016 collection was influenced by fairy tales and the struggle between good and evil. Can you see it? There were plenty of playful looks, but my favorites were the darker, edgier ones. And if fur’s your thing, it was plush and gorgeous.

Look one was a fantastic opener. It’s a risk to do a red parka in a high-sheen fabric (I believe it’s silk satin), and this one was done so flawlessly. I never knew I wanted a red parka before.

GEORGINE Spring 2016

GEORGINE Spring 2016

I recently realized that I’ve seen GEORGINE for a few seasons, enough to begin observing some evolution. It’s rare when you’re able to follow a designer from her first show at fashion week. I’ve gone from sitting front row to seeing it become star-studded (Laverne Cox is so tall!), which means that people are really starting to take notice.

Karolyn Pho Fall 2014 Backstage

A model having her makeup done at Karolyn Pho Fall 2014.

The Spring 2015 collections were great (plum lips! creative braids!) but fall is in the air here, so I’m sharing one of my favorite Fall 2014 beauty trends. Metallic shadow with emphasis on the lower lash line was popular on the runway, although I would definitely want some Skyn Iceland Eye Gels on hand. I got a few samples at a party earlier this year and absolutely love them. They can be worn even if you’re wearing foundation.

I also like Fall 2014’s clean, no makeup look. Keeping the skin simple always looks great. I’m not planning on giving up my red lipstick, but I’d like to incorporate a neutral lipstick, too. Just need to find the right one for my skin tone!

GEORGINE is a fairly new designer at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and showed at MBFW for the first time at Fall 2014. I was a fan of high-glam-yet-totally-wearable Fall 2014 collection, and Spring 2015 did not disappoint. Spring 2015 was majorly glamorous and done in a great color story– gold, mint, orange and some great neutrals.

Zang Toi Fall 2014

Zang Toi Fall 2014 | New York Fashion Week | Delayed Missives lifestyle blog

Without doubt, Zang Toi is my favorite show of the season. The one show that thrills me more than any other — that makes me think about why I love runway photography — is always Zang Toi. There’s a magical quality to a Zang Toi show. The models walk sedately and confidently. They don’t rush, they’re not in a hurry. You will wait for them. And the clothes— the movement of a skirt or the shine of an embellishment is enough to stop the heart. You know the feeling when you get it. There’s a collective sigh in the air, a shared feeling of appreciation for being able to take part in something so beautiful.

Leanne Marshall Fall 2014

Leanne Marshall Fall 2014 | New York Fashion Week | Delayed Missives lifestyle blog

Leanne Marshall is my all-time favorite Project Runway designer. She’s best known for her bridal collections, but her signature floaty and feminine  aesthetic is unmistakable in every collection. The Fall 2014 collection is very soft, done mostly in grey and blush tones.

Practically every piece is breathtaking. There are gorgeous flow and movement to every gown, but my favorite looks of the season are taken from the shorter cocktail looks. I loved the soft, sweatshirt-like material combined with what (to my eye) appeared to be sheer organza.
