Modern Vintage Summer Style | Outfits

Dear Katha,

It’s taken me a long time to settle into my style. And I’m actually not even sure that I’m done settling in yet.

I used to want to be on the cutting edge of modern fashion– geometric shapes, unusual silhouettes, shoes that border on the absolutely bizarre, etc. I bought tons of black clothing and sprinkled it with a bit of neon and some bold, bright trendy colors.

But… as much as I loved it, it didn’t quite fit. I like it so much on other people, but not quite as much on me. Something was off.

ZARA short (old) | Anthropologie skirt (S/S 2012) | Cole Haan Air Tali Wedges (similar) | Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM | Burberry sunglasses style BE4105-M | vintage gold filigree cuff | photos: star-crossed smile

So I started diversifying. Adding in Anthropologie, J.Crew and Coach (my old mainstay brands) and digging out my brown handbags and shoes again. I’ve even been wearing gold jewelry.

Don’t worry, I’m not about to give up any of my Alexander Wang. And though I generally I tend to wear quite a bit of color during the summer, I’m not giving up my black dresses either. I’m just recognizing my preference for vintage silhouettes, loose curls, and fashionable classics like Burberry and Louis Vuitton.

But I’m not going to give up wishing for a closet filled with Rick Owens pieces, either.

I guess I’m just a bit of a fashion conundrum.

Oh well. I’ll figure it out.

Eventually.

Alex

You look beautiful here and the vintage silhouette suits you. Fashion is all about dressing to make yourself feel good so I say forget what other people are doing and do what feels right for you!

Seriously? The best outfit ever. You look stunning and like you are in love with the outfit, and it shows. Silver screen star, stunning. I love the change, keep it coming.

I can definitely relate, and I’m not sure anyone needs to just have one style and be happy wearing the same cuts and colors forever and ever. Sure, somethings might be more flattering than others, some we will look back on and cringe. But we grow, our minds change, our feelings change, our clothes change.

I however, am pretty sure I told you last year that I was going to steal that skirt from you, and you know, I still want it.
