You’re welcome. …
Now that it’s full summer I’ve been changing up the decor. My two new summer windowsill candles are Ilume via Anthropologie, which always has something interesting. The regular glass candles that most stores have don’t seem to look as nice in the window, and I like not begin able to see the burned wick.
I picked up a Vanilla & Fig from the Boulangerie collection, and a summery Citron Basil from the Nature Tin collection. The Citron Basil is my pick for favorite summer candle– it practically smells like a summery dessert….
My father likes grilling, barware, and vacationing (or at least pretending to be on vacation) so I present to you the Father’s Day Gift Guide for the master-of-the-grill, mixologist extraordinaire, perpetual-vacationer kind of dad. If this sounds like your dad then you might see something that he’d like, too.
Some things that have been occupying the space around here lately:
Benefit Benetint, my favorite lip stain. It’s more subtle than my usual MAC Russian Red and I wear it almost every day. This bottle is c/o Benefit from a fashion week party last fall.
A Greenleaf candle in the scent First Blush. I think it’s Yuna Yang’s signature scent because I picked this candle up during the F/W 2013 show, but I remember the scent from S/S 2013 as well.
The Selby is in Your Place is a great book for some interior decorating inspiration. I’ve had my copy for several years but always flip through it every few months for some new ideas.
I’m happy to be working with Invisalign today to share my knowledge of the difference between traditional braces and new, removable aligners like Invisalign.
It’s common knowledge that I never smile in photos, but I’m willing to bet you don’t know the reason why: I hate having crooked teeth. …
I’ve been on Quora for quite a while now, but I’ve only recently started truly being a part of the community. I’m following the Instagram and photography topics, of course, and even shared what I consider the best Instagram photo I’ve ever taken.
There’s a lot of great content, including answers from Julie Fredrickson (formerly of social media at Ann Taylor), and a fantastically amusing post on time management that includes the words “Jedi time tricks”. But if you’d like to read something that will truly give you pause, try this answer to the question What are the top 10 things that we should be informed about in life?.
You can find me on Quora under my real name — as you are supposed to be — and if you’re on Quora, too, let me know in the comments!
A strand of legacy pearls and my newest candle. It smells like cake. And, yes, I bought it more for the jar than the scent. When the original candle burns down I should be able to replace it with wax beads, right?
Illume Boulangerie candles are available online at Anthropologie.
I love love love phone charms. I started collecting them in college when I studied abroad in Japan, where most people have at least three, but having five or more isn’t uncommon. I have Hello Kitty charms, cake charms with bells attached, whale charms from the aquarium, traditional silk koi charms from historic areas, kitten charms with screen cleaner fabric on their stomachs, and many more.
The only problem? As soon as I got the iPhone I couldn’t use my charms because there’s no spot for a lanyard. Luckily there are JackGems— Swarovski crystal jewelry for your phone that fit into the universal 3.5mm phone jack. …

You might remember me sharing Epiphany Chocolates during Fashion Week when I received a box in the Lucky FABB gift bag. But even if you don’t, Epiphany did and kindly sent me a selection of their Love Pie? Eat Chocolate. collection for fall. Love Pie? Eat Chocolate. contains seasonal flavors like Falling For You (pumpkin pie fudge), Slice of Heaven (apple cinnamon pie fudge), and Sweet Pie of Mine (maple pecan sweet potato pie fudge).
Welcome to Letters from the City, a lifestyle photoblog.
My name is Alex and I have been blogging in some form or another since 1998. I’m a former Manhattanite now living the quieter life in Queens. I like outerwear and red lipstick.
When I was younger, I was let loose in a GAP Kids one too many times, resulting in many of the fashion choices you see here in my photos. I also read, traveled, and took cooking and art classes. Art eventually led me around to photography, and to this day I do enjoy a good brunch.
