Dear Dotty,
Fashion week is in full swing here in New York, as is the snow and slush. I’ve seen people walking around in stilettos, but I prefer my trusty La Canadienne snow boots. They’re very stable on the icy streets and I can even walk through a snowpile without a problem.
I don’t tend to dress for fashion week because I think too much fuss can mess with the quality of my photos. I like to be able to maintain a good amount of movement in my shoulders (so the coat drape is definitely out) and I like to keep my coat with me because I often need to go from one venue to another. The last thing I want to do is get stuck in a long coat check line!
I also tend to favor flats. Heels can give you a better view when standing for a show but they can be unsteady when you’re in the dark with a heavy camera. When it comes down to it, I’d definitely rather take a better photo than have a long leg line while walking around.

Whether you follow the collections or not, I hope you have a stylish week!

The snow is really nice… until you get to the street! Then everything just gets messy.
One day we will meet IRL! One day.

your boots look super practical but stylish too, though, Alex!

You raise some very good points and it’s important to consider function as well as fashion.
I have no issue with this leopard dress doing all the work, while your feet get to be warm and comfy.

Alex, I love the leo dress with the black sheath of coat! I agree about the footwear! it is hard to walk on city sidewalk in pumps!
I do have a couple of pumps with traction soles that will do me, but overall, I agree , this is a time for boots or booties of some kind. Taking a slip on the snowy sidewalk is SO, NOT glamourous, or fun…!
Have a great week!

I agree, slipping on the sidewalk is definitely not the best look in the winter!

Very chic, the leopard print breaks the look up nicely.

Thanks! I think that sometimes a great print is all you need!

Love your outfit Alex. It’s both practical and chic.

This is A+ practical dressing as far as I’m concerned. I can barely wear tall heels when it’s warm and dry, so I can’t imagine attempting to ford slushpuddles and snowdrifts with them! Then again, some folks have better balance and are more committed to the aesthetic than I. Anyhow, you look cool and stylish as always, and I hope you’ve been having fun with fashion week!
Alexandra Shook says
I have good balance, but I am not into heels for fashion week. It’s seriously miserable- you stand a lot, so your feet hurts, your back starts bothering you… your mood can go downhill too fast!
