Grey Stripes, Trench Coat + Pearls

Dear Shen Dove,

I have been waiting forever to wear this outfit. I picked up this dress from Anthropologie when it was still freezing out, but this outfit is the end goal that I had in mind. As soon as I saw the dress I knew it would be perfect with a trench coat and bare legs for spring. Have you ever imagined an outfit and for one reason or another had to wait ages before wearing it?

Club Monaco Harper Trench (similar in wool) | pure + good/Anthropologie striped dress (similar) | ZARA Studded Cowboy Ankle Boots (past season) | Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Baby Groovee Satchel (so far past season it might be back in style, current version) | Erickson Beamon for Bauble Bar necklace (also past season) | photos: star-crossed smile

I’m very glad it appears to be warming up– put away all my tights so I have my fingers crossed that I won’t have to unpack them again. I love living in a city with seasons but I think up a lot of outfits that just look so much better with bare legs.

Hi Alexandra – pretty outfit, think those shoes and the trench coat work pefectly. Also, as a new reader of your blog I though I’d just jump in and leave a quick comment here to say I’ve been reading a few posts and enjoying them a lot. Cheers! Shaun

I love this look! I have definitely imagined an outfit way before I actually had the opportunity to wear it. It typically happens when I buy or swap something off season and have to wait a while to wear the item.

With this outfit I’m going to pretend you’re a classy lady detective–Alex Shook, Private Eye. Tough as nails, she solves New York’s crimes and looks good doing it! Do I smell a movie deal?

sometimes i envy those of you who actually live in places where you experience each season. and then y’all get hit by a brutal snow storm and i’m over it ASAP. you added the perfect details to make a simple dress stand out. and pretty legs btw!

I have so been there. I’m always buying things and then waiting for that day when the weather will finally be ”perfect” for it.

Worth the wait, that dress is adorable, especially with the trench. and my tights are away, and not coming out again, even though the weather people keep throwing the word ‘frost’ around.
