Neutral And Blue Nails

I was sporting some seriously blue nails in my last outfit post. Which I liked. But thought were too… specific, i.e. give me navy nails any day, but bright blue? Maybe not. Neutral with a strong blue accent might be more my style. What do you think?

BA STAR Smoky Eye Shadow Palette | Sponsored

Disclosure: a sample of the BA STAR Smoky Eye Shadow Palette in Natural was provided to me c/o BA STAR in exchange for a product review.

BA STAR is a performance makeup brand popular with cheerleaders, dancers, and competitors in a variety of fields. They recently released a new eye shadow palette that’s both versatile and affordable at just $8.75. I received the Smoky Eye Shadow Palette in Natural (yes! I love these colors!), which contains three mineral eye shadows and two glitter gels for highlighting. I can’t say that I have a lot of use for the glitter gels these days, but I wish they would have been around when I was younger and still in gymnastics and figure skating. They’re much better than the awful glitters from the 90s that would travel all over my face.

Fall 2013 Nail Trends Preview | Beauty

Lately I’ve been paying more attention to the small details of a show– perfectly placed braids, major eyelashes, nude lips, a slash of eye shadow…

Zoya did glittery nails to match the gold looks at Rafael Cennamo, where full-size samples were also given out to presentation-goers. Here I used Angelina (the dark brown) all over and Goldie for barely there gold tips. The custom gold flake Maria Luisa top coat was not included in the set, or else I would have tried an ombré glitter overlay.

Julep Stefani and Butter London Matte Finish Topcoat

Dear Laura,

I painted my nails! I know, it’s a rarity. I feel that nail polish takes so long to dry that I don’t really have time for it… and I did end up wrecking these within two hours of applying the polish. I’ve been using Butter London’s Matte Finish Topcoat constantly and really like it. I originally thought it might dry my nails faster, but it takes just as long to fully set my nails as usual… if only I could seem to remember that.

The color I used is Julep’s Stefani from one of my old Julep Maven boxes, described as a “Gold flecked grey metallic”. There are tiny gold flecks in the polish that begin to stand out as the polish dries. Julep nail polishes are 4 free and I like to use natural products as much as possible, so they get my dangerous chemical-free approval.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm Review

In the mirror at the Clarins lounge.

One fashion week day during a break between shows, Chris, Lindsay, and I stopped by the tranquil and spa-like (i.e. I loved it) Clarins Beauty Flash Lounge in the Empire Hotel. I just asked for a bit of undereye help that day, but my makeup artist convinced me to do a full touch up with Clarins Beauty Flash and new foundation. She gave me some tips for application and we discussed sponge vs. fingertips methods.

At midnight my makeup still looked great.

That’s kind of an impossible feat for me (I think at least half my makeup disappears by noon every day), so I was sold on Beauty Flash. It’s the best primer I’ve ever used and even beats out my regular favorites from Smashbox, Laura Mercier, and L’Oreal. I’ve been testing Beauty Flash for about a month now, and it even saw me through a 5am wake up for an early flight to a midnight party… without a single touch up.

Clarins Beauty Flash is both brightening and tightening, so I found that if you have dry skin (me) it’s definitely best to moisturize before using Beauty Flash, then go on with your beauty products as usual.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is available for $45/1.7 fl. oz. on the Clarins website, at Nordstrom.com with free shipping, and at Sephora.com.

Disclosure: I grabbed a complimentary full-size tube of Beauty Flash ($45 retail value) on my way out of the lounge.

#EclosBeauty Skin Care Review and Giveaway

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of éclos Skin Care. All opinions are 100% mine.

Several weeks ago, éclos beauty asked if I would review their Anti-Aging Skin Care Starter Kit, which contains stem cells extracted from the Swiss Uttwiler Spätlauber apple. I read about apple stem cells being used for skincare products years ago in Allure, but definitely couldn’t afford the high price points– at the time, skin care products containing apple stem cells were priced into the thousands.
