Gasparilla Pirate Festival is an annual event in which pirates invade Tampa and then parade through the city. Most pirates ride on elaborate floats and throw beads to the spectators that yell the loudest. Tons of people dress up like pirates for the festival, which is pretty much the equivalent of a giant street party. I wish there was a pirate festival in New York!

Rock Your Hair is a fun hair care line by Michael O’Rourke, the creator of Big Sexy Hair. All of the packaging is bright pink and products are embellished with rhinestones for some extra sparkle. The three products I tried also all smelled great without being overwhelming. Strong fruity and floral scents tend to give me a headache, so I always appreciate a great product with a subtle scent.

I haven’t been around much this month, I know. It’s been busy, busy, busy.
I’ve been putting most of my energy into making my final project for class– an application built end-to-end by me. My project is called Retourist and is an attempt to build a better travel site, one that’s user-based and has suggestions for less touristy experiences. It’s still in beta and needs a lot of features built out, but it mostly works and at least the index page has a lot of nice photos.
I’ve also been thinking very seriously about New Year’s resolutions this year.

There’s something special about photos captured just as the sun is disappearing, isn’t there?. The light is always glowing and soft, so no wonder it’s one of my favorite times of the day to shoot. My other favorite time is the blue hour, and I also like days that are perfectly overcast. Those are difficult to come by– it can’t be raining, but it can’t be too clear either.
