Oh That’s My Friend Lydia

Technology is truly a great thing, isn’t it? Without it I probably wouldn’t have gotten into the internet and blogging. And I wouldn’t have so many cool blog friends either.

Today I had a conversation that went something like:

(points to blog on screen) Who’s that?

Oh that’s my friend Lydia.

How do you know her?

My flickr photo group, wardrobe_remix.

She’s visiting in August. (Don’t think I’ve forgotten about that, Lydia!)

Not the most conventional of friendship beginnings, but I truly do cherish all of my blogger friends. Without all of you my digital life would be sad and lonely. I hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend! I’ll have a report on Savage Beauty for you on Monday and probably a bunch of pointless photos from my phone. Hopefully I’ll persuade someone to take an outfit photo or two as well, I’m carrying my SLR and light 35mm lens on Sunday at least.

Oh, and guys… the Alexander Wang sample sale is this coming week at 97 Greene St (Prince and Spring). I’ll be there on Saturday or Sunday because prices are discounted further on those two days, but if you’re looking for shoes and accessories you have to go Wednesday, the first day. Lucky for me I’m looking for clothing. But there goes my budget, seriously. Like no more clothes for the rest of the year after the sample sale. I’ve pretty much ignored all the other summer sales in favor of this one.

Flowers in Purple

I was just playing around with color sliders in Aperture the other day and came up with this almost vintage looking end product. It looks way better than the actual vintage filter, so I’m hoping I’ll be able to replicate it in the future.

Exciting news!  I’m going to Savage Beauty this weekend. I’d been reluctant to go because tales of the weekend lines have reached me and during the week I often become too busy. However, my friend’s mom is a member of the Met so we can skip the line on Saturday and get right to the exhibit! No photos though, so sad. I always feel somewhat lost without some sort of a photo-taking device. I guess I just have to take extra photos of lunch or something.

Every time I wear this dress someone compliments me on it, but the truth is I don’t think it’s one of my better-fitting or better-looking pieces. I even thought of giving it away for a while. I guess people are seeing something I’m not, so it’s back in the closet for now. I am, however, willing to trade something for it :)

I Can’t Think of Anything

Good news, guys! I can edit my sidebar again! I fixed that issue but tags and some other things still aren’t working. Hopefully WordPress updates again soon.

These are from Friday when it was 105 degrees. This dress is synthetic but also one of my lightest, and if I don’t wrap it tightly it’s also one of my loosest. I chose minimal accessories, too… when it starts getting into the upper 90s I like to keep things simple. I even thought it was too hot for heels and brought out my favorite old sandals.

I acquired so many new freckles at the beach! They actually show in photos now. For me, freckles are signs of summer. I always have them but they are much more prominent from summer into fall.

FBFF: What’s in My Bag

A new visual thing is going on with FBFF these days, to be hosted by members on the Fridays that we don’t do questions any more. The first one is What’s in My Bag hosted by A Pretty Nest.

I can’t remember ever doing a what’s in my bag before (I know, right? Have I been living under a rock?) so this one was super fun for me!

I’ve been carrying this bag a lot lately because the color feels bright and summery to me, and I like carrying a lighter bag during hot weather. I try not to carry around my computer or camera. Something about a heavy bag seems to weigh me down during the summer– especially on 103 degree days.

New York Shopping Photos

Hello, friends! I hope you enjoyed the guest posts from some of my favorite bloggers (thanks guys!). My friend and I had such a fun time on vacation. She was visiting from California so we did a few semi-touristy things (Central Park, rooftop bar, etc.) but mostly a lot of shopping and dining at some new and old favorite restaurants. I left the Canon behind and didn’t take a single photo of myself, but I did take photos at some of my favorite stores, hope you like them!

Guest Post: Re-Mix-Her

Hi, Delayed Missives readers! I’m Caitlin from Re-Mix-Her, and I am so excited to be guest-posting on here today while Alex is gallivanting about in the Hamptons (lucky girl!)!

I am a Midwest girl currently living in Little Rock, Arkansas, for an internship, but I will be going home soon to my small town in Indiana to finish up my senior year at college. Because I am like so many undergrads shelling out the big bucks for a higher education, I have a limited budget. Luckily, though, I have a love for thrifting, going to garage sales, and finding any and all deals on clothes. Re-Mix-Her is all about affordable style and remixing what you already have in your closet.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sweater: Ann Taylor LOFT
Vest: Anthropologie
Jeans: Elle (Kohl’s)
Sandals: Elle (Kohl’s)
Bag: Brahmin (c/o Vogue)
Watch: Garage sale
Bracelets: TJ Maxx
Ring: Ann Taylor LOFT

I had my eye on this sweater all summer, and it finally went on sale a few weeks ago. I am such a sucker for sales, as I am a sucker for multi-functionalism when it comes to pieces of clothing … which is probably why I love this vest. I definitely wore this vest three times in the past week. Gross? Nope. That’s what I call a smart purchase. I finished off the outfit with my favorite bag and watch (which I bought from a man at a garage sale. Gross? Nope. That’s also what I call a smart purchase.).

Alex, have an amazing vacation! Everybody else, come say hi sometime at Re-Mix-Her or tweet me here! Who knows? Maybe my love of thrifting and multi-functionalism will rub off on you.

Guest Post from Chic on the Cheap

Hi! I’m Lydia from Chic on the Cheap, guest posting while Alex is off enjoying her vacation. I’m rubbish at writing intros, so I’m just going to skip ahead the shorts.

The short shorts, or as I think I will call them, the Standing Room Only Shorts, since should I attempt to sit in them, they pretty much just disappear.

They have scallops, are adorable, and I’m determined to wear them, so it’s settled, I will just be that girl in the inappropriately short shorts.

Standing room only This is my dog Chloe, who I like to drag along on my outfit photo shoots. She is a bichon, and she does not really like to look at the camera.

Standing room only This is the turquoise bag that prompted me to start blogging in the first place. I’ve had it for almost three years now; I’m glad I decided to buy it. The story is pretty enthralling, so I’ll share it with you:

Girl sees bag, falls in love, but talks herself out of buying it because she doesn’t like the $80 price tag.

The next day, she decides she wants it anyway and goes back, but it’s gone.

Two months later, the bag reappears, only now it’s $60.

Girl buys bag, feels victorious, and starts a blog so she can brag about it.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed my guest post and decide that you might want to come visit me sometime! And if lots of leg and a cute dog aren’t enough to convince you that my blog might be worth a moment of your time, I also (occasionally) hunt around the web to find great deals on clothes and then share them with you. That is, if it wasn’t the last one in stock and I already bought it for myself, anyway.
