Guess Where New York

6.26.2010 ~ Saturday

The lighting isn’t terribly good in these photos but I just love the look of streestyle photography.  I wish all my photos could be taken on the streets of New York, however I don’t think carrying around my tripod is exactly practical… Also, this dress needs tailoring.  And a belt.  This is why I wish I had a polaroid camera!  Maybe I’ll get myself one for Christmas this year :)

I met some of my sorority sisters for a mini reunion day.  We had lunch at Matsugen and then went shopping in SoHo before meeting another friend still in school who’s working in the city for the summer.  I need to find a job in New York… or just a job in general, you know.  But New York is sort of my life’s goal destination.  I wouldn’t mind city life at all, even in the summer heat!  Saturday’s weather was really good though, it only ever got too hot briefly in the afternoon so we spent a lot of time in stores.

I can across a huge find: Callalilai Boutique!  It reminds me of Free People, Anthropologie, etc. but just a little more grown up.  I highly recommend it, even if you just go in and look at the décor!

BCBG Max Azria dress (still available), Sofft shoes (saw through the entire day!), Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, b-side by ken and dana bracelet, Coach sunglasses.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Theatre

6.25.2010 ~ Friday evening ~ A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

I went to opening night of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and it was so great!  I highly recommend it if you ever have the chance to see it!  I was a little pressed for time to get ready to go and it was really hot out, so I grabbed the first light and airy dress I saw in my closet.  I almost never just impulsively put things on but I really had no idea what I was going to wear beforehand.  I don’t know how I feel about that shoes with this dress either, but the pre-show is completely on the grass so I didn’t want my heels to be stuck in the ground (it recently rained)!

I’m not positive that I like the pattern of this dress…  I might overdye it in dark pink or navy.  Do you think it would look better that way?  I’m firmly convinced that nothing in fashion divides people more than a pattern.  It can stir up quite a bit of drama, and tends to the extremes: usually either love or hate!

P. S.  Comments are now open!  And I love this new theme so much that I’m thinking of making an image header for it!  I might just stay with this one and not write my own!

In the Summertime

6.25.2010 ~ Friday

Summer weather is officially here!  It’s been holding steady in the 80s and 90s with extreme humidity and no end in sight!  Time to switch to breezy summer dresses!  This is a recent purchase, but I can see it belonging to the group of dresses I have that are labeled 90+ degrees days.  They’re the lightest, most comfortable in the heat kind of dresses I own.

I also have photos of what I wore to the opening night of a musical later on during the evening.  I went to Starbucks in this, and not really much else.  They’ll be up in another post.

What do you think of the shoes and bag?  Too strange a color combination?  The shoes are officially listed as silver by Sofft but I think they are more of a metallic nude.  And the bag is called aluminum grey or something like that — it’s a dark grey, no metallic.

Going Nowhere

6.21.2010 ~ Monday

Not at all something that really belongs on the blog, but this is a good example of something I might wear during the summer when I literally have nothing to do… especially as I am still not gainfully employed.  Not that anyone I know actually likes their gainful employment, but I think I would really enjoy it :)  So I photographed this lazy nothing going nowhere outfit because I wear things like this often during the summer.

This shirt is extremely old, and by extremely old I mean well over two years.  I think it was the Fall 07 Ella Moss for Barneys CO-OP collection.  It’s great for hot days because it’s very loose, although sometimes I add a belt.  It saw me through spring and summer in Japan and temperatures are out of control there!  This bracelet is also from Japan, from a cool build your own charm bracelet store in Roppongi Hills.  It was a birthday gift from friends of the family and their two five year-old daughters picked out all the charms.  All of them have significance: the peace sign because everyone flashes it in photos, the umbrella because it rains often in Japan, the dress and bag because I like fashion… there are a few others too but they aren’t visible in the photos. Only the shamrock is different, I bought it in Ireland last summer.

I think I have to touch up the fake tan.  The hands are looking a little splotchy!

Free Floral

6.19.2010 ~ Saturday

This is the shirt I wore here.  Now you can see the rest of it!  I think it’s actually close to tunic length.  I like taking photos in the shade right now :)  It’s so hot in the sun!  I almost went outlet shopping over the weekend but it was just too hot to be walking outside and shopping!  So instead I had a productive day of clothing buying inside a lovely air conditioned mall!  Juicy Couture is running a 50% off promotion on swimwear in case you’d like any!  I think it’s still going on but call your local store just to be certain.  These J. Crew sandals are practically ancient!  I got them when I was a freshman in high school, so that’s almost ten years ago.  Back when sandals from J. Crew only cost $65 and not $150!  They’ve held up so well over the years and are decently comfortable.  I once wore them all over the cobblestone streets in Italy with practically no problems!

No, I didn’t take a secret beach vacation, I just became extremely tan overnight… with the help of Sevin Nyne Self-Tanning Lotion.  Actually the spray is better but you only get two uses out of it.  I think the lotion gives you about five or six depending on how much you apply.  Just be sure to really rub it in!

It’s a Jungle Out There!

6.18.2010 ~ Friday

This is my entry for the new What We Wore Style Challenge.  The theme is Safari Chic!  Can you believe that I actually don’t own a single piece of khaki clothing?  I used to own khaki cropped cargo pants but I can’t find them anywhere, probably because I still haven’t transitioned to a summer wardrobe yet.  Bad, lazy me!

I didn’t think I was going to be able to do this challenge at first, but I had an outpouring of inspiration this morning that began with a leopard print jacket and ended with the scarf in the photos.  It’s four or five years old I think, and Antik Batik from Paris.  Very popular back in the day when it was actually in style!  The bracelet and ring are from Indonesia I think.  My friend who accessorized the yellow Diane von Furstenberg dress sent them to me.  She went on an Asia trip last year so I can’t exactly remember where they’re from.  It could have been Bali?

Flowers on the Patio

6.11.2010 ~ Friday ~ South of the Mason-Dixon Line

I spent the end of last week traveling and attending celebrations.  Friday evening was my friend’s graduation party, her parents are longtime friends of the family.  It was definitely a warm one!  And I managed to get bit by a mosquito sometime during thirty second trip from car to house.  I sometimes think I would benefit from a mosquito repellent that is injected in the blood!

This almost an exact repeat of something I wore in early April.  I just changed the shoes.

Free people dress, J. Crew ribbon belt, Steve Madden sandals, Louis Vuitton bag.
